Hi I am pretty sure this is a grackle... but is it a female, juvenile, or what? And what kind of grackle? Thanks!
CLOSED: Grackle?
Immature male grackle, just starting to get its first adult glossy black feathers on the wing coverts and flanks, but the rest still brownish.
Which species of grackle is trickier; Common, Boat-tailed and Great-tailed are all possible in your area, and it's hard to judge the size in this pic. What size is it, compared to e.g. an American Robin? Also, what habitat was it in? - urban? Galveston Bay coastal saltmarsh?
The orangey upper breast does point toward Boat-tailed, but not definitely so.

Urban - to be exact in La Porte TX
He was about the same size as a mocking bird, smaller than a blue jay
I think he is very pretty at this stage (or rather - handsome, since it is a boy!)
Has to be Common Grackle, then. The other two are conspicuously larger.
