Some of you already have posted on the thread in the Tropicals forum that Braveheartsmom started for Christi. Just incase you missed it, here is the link. Christi had extensive back surgery on the 6th and is recovering, but we need to let her know her Texas DGers are behind her.
You can leave a note here, or on that thread; just let her know you are thinking of her.

I just received a call from Mike, Christi's DH. She is getting around great and managing her pain very well. She was alert and sitting up reading the paper. The doctor said another day or two she will be going home! She is in a room now, it is #JO608 in the Baylor Hospital in Dallas (Johnson Hosp. Bldg.). I am sure she is really enjoying the food too! LOL! Home will look so wonderful when she gets there.
Hang on Christi only a couple days and you are home!
That's great news! Christi, keep on the good tracks, and you'll be home in no time!
Thanks again, Sheila and Mike for the good news!
Hugs,
Alexandra
Thanks Sheila for the update...I'm sure she will be thrilled to get home and have good food from Mike and sleep in her own home LOL
Sending happy and pain free thoughts your way. Hope you don't have too rough a time of it. NO digging in the garden for a while! Just remember the mantra "weeds need room too, weeds need room too".
Best wishes,
Crow

Christi, I have you in my thoughts and prayers. May you have a speedy recovery.
Christi just posted on the Tropical forum (thread at the top)...she is HOME!!!!
I know she will be glad to sleep in her own bed tonight!
Welcome back to the Garden, Christi!
I hope you have a minimum of pain during your recovery!!! I bet it sure feels good to just be home!!! Take it easy until the Doc says OK!!!
Thank each and everyone from the bottom of my heart for your sweet wishes. With great gang like this (think verizon commercial) how can I not heal quickly. Not enough energy to walk across the room.
Back to bed.
What a super gang! (think verizon commercial. With your prayers and sweet thoughts....just have to recover quickly.
Chris
Baby steps Christi...baby steps. It will take time but you DO have us behind you.
It is amazing how your energy can leave you overnight when things like this happen.
But with a little time and God's help, you will be your bubbly self again soon.
Love from your friend,
Josephine.
Wishing you a good nights sleep and endurance for the morning.
What a way to start or end a day, by reading encouraging thoughts from many friends. I resolve to do better for others as soon as I am able.
This is no piece of cake and I greatly admire those that have had this experience twice. (Sheila and DH, his lastl being Aug.6.08.
The wonderful refreshing rain has really perked up the garden. Right now all I can do is look out the window. The deck outside the door entails 7 steps up and down to actually get into the yard. That sounds impossible right now.
Having a hard time getting the pain meds organized to take the least and not too much and not too little. As a result the nights are a hundred hours long. Found out that I am extremely sensitive to anesthesia ( as a first time out with no background). After 12 hours of attempting to awaken me they left me with Mike. When he realized I was barely breathing they had a "fire drill". Gave me something to remove all pain relievers from my body which took another 12 hours plus...while I screamed every breathe. Then they started over but buy that time the pain ebb was so high I couldn't be consoled. So here I am this morning with two choices...one that does next to nothing and the other that has a tendency to depress breathing. I don't want to frighten others who are considering surgery. This was one of those once-in-every-whatever things that can happen. So much for sensation. Have talked myself into taking one of each of the above mentioned meds. The nurses often did that in ICU.
Christi.... I know you like my DH want to get off the meds as soon as you can. They basically give you the meds and say "as needed". But when you are under the effects, it is hard to make sense of anything, and you just want the pain to stop.
Herman went through a period that he took too much and then he tried not to take one until he really needed them. But it wouldn't take effect right away and the pain would be worse, so he would take more, then be groggy or nauseated.
Finally he has found what worked for me helps. He takes a half ever four hours instead of whole one every 8 hours and it keeps him even pain wise. Then at night he will take one of both meds and put a half on his bedside to take at 3 or 4 am; so by the time he gets up at 7am his pain has eased. I know from experience the bed is not your friend. You want sleep so bad but you feel worse after you wake up.
When I got to the point of trying to get off the meds, I would cut down instead of taking a half every 4 hours..go to 5 hours apart..but do whatever I did for 3 or 4 days. Then I would try another hour. It worked for me to do it that way. What ever you do, write it down so you keep track.
The best thing that worked if I began hurting too bad, was walking with a walker. I could lean into it with my weight and it took a little pressure off as I walked. It is the one with large wheels, a basket and seat, if you want to borrow this one just LMK.
Just had a thought.... You can go next door and through the gate to your yard!
I'm thinking of you, Christi, and hoping tomorrow and each day following is a better day.
Christi I'm thinking of you tonight and hope your pain is abating. Take care of yourself now, take it easy and get better. God bless, Karen
