A while back, I was telling you all about my cat, Tom, who was raised with chickens since birth, and how he has the habit of going to the coop with my chickens in the evening. Every night when I go out to close the coop door, I always find him sleeping on a nest of eggs. Well, tonight I was finally able to sneak up to the door and take a picture of him on the nest! He always comes right out as soon as he hears me so I was lucky to get a few pictures… What a crazy cat! Does anyone else have a cat that does this???
Tom's a real lover-boy. You can't hold and pet on him too much; he eats it up. He's also wonderful with our grandbabies. They carry him around like a rag doll, and we've caught our youngest ones carrying Tom around by the neck. He has never scratched or hissed at any of them, and he loves for them to hold him on their laps. In that way, he acts more like a dog than a cat...
I'll post my pictures so that you all can see for yourselves!
What a wacky cat!
My cat, Tom, on a nest of eggs!
LOL, just passing through. That is just too cute. : )

That's hilarious! He's a smart cat, he's found the most snuggly spot in the yard for a nap!
wat would he doif hefound a little chick under him lol
I think male cats are so much sweeter and cuddlier than female. I had one that tried to raise baby cottontails.
I am sure Tom would make an excellent mother.
Watch Cat? Too cool. Just gotta love em!
You know what's funny? He has NEVER broken an egg, and the nest is always full of them! .....Maybe he thinks he's a chicken?
Good PaPa!!! lol
i agree catscan my male cat just loafs around and is loveable
his suposed breeding partner on the other habd needs a good kick up the butt
what a wonderful cat!
that is just to cute.
You know, now that I think about it, every female I've had has been sweet, but skiddish and not crazy about being held for very long, and ever male I've had has been a lover-boy. Tom's sister, Sadie, my other cat, will let us pet her for about 5 minutes and then she's out-a-here. She won't let the kids hold her and usually hides when they come.
...Females have always been on their guard, while males are relaxed and fearless.
That is a beautiful thing. has he ever puffed up and started hissing? Got broody?

my female cat is a lover. she is actually a pest. but i love her anyway.
Actually, come to think of it, every creature I have is that way. Girls take a little lovin', boys take a LOT of lovin'. DD takes a little, DH.............g2gbye.
HA!! I never noticed that! My DH takes a lot of luv'n too! Hee-hee! Men, regardless of what kind, are all alike, huh! ;) lol
I'm glad I caught this thread on the "recent posts" list. I normally would not be in the poultry forum but my husband and I love kitties so I enjoyed see your Tom laying in the chicken coop :)
isnt that just 2 cute. My kittens were born outside and they lay around with the chickens. I think the kittens think they are chickens.
that is to cute.
That has to be the cutest picture ever!! He looks like he belongs in a chicken coop, as a protector ;)

We have all (ex) queens. They won't set, they just come up and rub against the hens or roos when they want affection -talk about puzzled chickens!
LOL protector of the chickens
Would this make Tom a "Catbird"?? HA! lol :-D
or Catsitter, so the hens can have a day out on the 'town'? LOL

Is there such a thing as a "guard cat"??
My cat seems to think that I'm raising some really nice snacks for this next birthday. He's afraid of Lacey, but he gets really excited when Talula separates from her. He also LOVES Millie and Tillie -- um, bite size!
that is just way too cute :o) my kitty is a lover too...although pure predator for the past 11 yrs! so I dont envision him reverting any time soon! He stalks around the chicken pen, peers into the windows and then just glares at me as if I am torturing him by not letting him in there! lol!
Boy do I have wussie cats. My own cat--semi-feral who bravely raised several litters on her own without human help--will not go outside until she is sure the chickens are elsewhere (although she did express a strong interest in them when they were under 3 weeks). And a whole litter of feral cats that moved into my yard in the late spring are terrorized by the laying hens. They sleep on the runs or sit on the benches, but will not mix with the chickens at all. And when they are caught on the ground the hens mob them.
LOL like meerkats
my cat wont get down the back any time soon cause they are indoors because they were intended to be mating partners and we didnt want any feral mixws
but they show lots of intrest to the chicken room were i keep the chics and older chicken/chicks which have to be brought inside at night because it is to cold
