I received 2 cuttings from a fellow DG'er and rooted them that is not what I'm looking for information about. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long it takes to bloom.
I had posted a couple pictures and she said it looks lkike one of them had Y'd. Yes checked and its Y'd. She asked me to post a picture from the top and when I did she said she thinks she was seeing assymetrical (sp) leaves and thought that I could have possible tiny baby buds forming. She suggested I come here and post the pictures and maybe someone could tell if she is right or not.
so here I am.
Info on my Brug?
Cee Cee,
From what I can tell on the pics, I don't think either have y'd yet. I know many times I think there's a y when it's really just new leaf formation. I forget who on DG taught me this, but you can always tell when the bloom formation is going to start with the way the leaves are. I don't know all my parts of a plant so maybe someone will jump in with a better explanation. But for lack of a better explanation, see how the edges of the leaves line up even with the part that leads to the veins (is that the petiole?)? Not the tip of the leaf, but the top part. Right now in the photos the edges look even with each other. Once they don't look even - meaning one side of the leaf is lower than the other, then the plant has gone into bud formation and buds will start to show up. Hopefully, someone will explain it better. Also, I wonder if you should have each of those cuttings in separate pots. They can get big pretty fast and you still have a good bit of growing tme in your zone, don't you. I'd be tempted to put them in separate pots then bring them in for winter.

Ceeceecoogan,
Scroll down to Leaves on this link. It shows what Barbara described:

She's also right about having one cutting/one pot. Brugs have vigorous root systems, are fertilizer hogs and will need space to grow well.
Thankyou so much Barbara and bettydee, that's a fabulous explanation ,about leaf formation and what to look at,for bud formation.....
Oh boy! Please post a pic when the blooms are all open!
thats Really Nice
thank. third time its bloomed for me. Last September it bloomed, then again in February in my sun room and now again in August. I just think they're pretty.
Does it have a name? Paul
Its an "oid". I ordered 3 from a catalog last spring. Supposedly one yellow, one white and one pink. No names were attached. This one has bloomed thress times now one has had about 6 blooms on it once and the other never has bloomed. Oh the other one that bloomed was yellow also. This past spring I ordered a "Charles Grimaldi" but hasn't bloomed yet course it is still very small
Thanks
Lovely!!
Posy Last year was the first time I ever tried Brugs . The one got buds around this time last year and by my DGD birthday (Sept 21) they were fully open and gorgeous. I moved them into the sun room and the same one bloomed again in February and is now with 25 blossoms on it as we speak.
Where are you? Pennsylvania? right? I would think they would still bloom. I'm 5a and they did good.
Congrats Show me when full bloom.
Is there buds forming?? I'm looking but I'm not seeing any......but there mat little ones I'm not seeing. The fragrance is better in the evening hours and the early mornings. I have them right by the slider in the sun room and can smell them at those times best. One good whiff and you're hooked for life.
Yes,there are buds forming cece. In the first pic above this one you can see them. I counted them and there are 6 small ones and 1 that is a little bigger. I just know that is what will happen to me once I smell them. I can slide them from the deck to the sun room for the cold months which is a direct south sun. I hope to be as lucky with them as you have been in your first year☺
I sit out on the deck in the early morning and in the evening almost every day, so I can hardly wait. I would live outside if I could get away with it,life can be so good☺
I saw them this time. Just you wait.
I also bring mine into our sunroom which also has a southern exposure. I heated it last year but when the electric bills hit 300. DH said no more. I've been researching and the lower temps at night shouldn't really hurt my tropicals as long as they are out of the wind, frost, and snow. So here's to hoping they survive like last year. We'll find out come spring I guess.
