Hi,
I noticed one of my little chicks sneezed a coulpe of times today... should I be worried? Anything I can do if she is getting sick? Vitamins in the water?
PS. Here's a fun pic of the big girls checking out the babies in their "playpen". ~8-D
Chick Sneeze
I wouldn't worry about a couple sneezes--just watch and see if others start and if the sneezing is accompanied by any other symptoms.
Isn't it funny how the older pullets look at the younger--like "Should I kill you, or mother you?"
Yah, hilarious. The other day - before the playpen - I had them out in the crook of my legs and Talula came at us full speed to stop just inches from the bigger baby. she craned her neck and eyeballed it. I was just hoping she wasn't goin going to peck the baby.
what sid you make their playmen out of? that looks neat!
Old windows? Love that!
Yep, old windows. We've got a lot lying around waiting for various art projects I have in mind. In the meantime it was a quick and easy "playpen" and I think we'll keep it afterwards for a "hot house" for lengthening our growing season!
It was really hot yesterday, but we just put them in the shade and put a fan in there. They were happy as clams... er... chicks... ~8-D
hmmm, I have double window paned french doors that we took out last year. they are now leaning on the side of the house waiting for a dumpster....but now I'm thinking yard art.... or a mini green house?! hmmmm... off to the drawing board!
**********jealous glare********I love those things!!
sorry! hopefully I will have 2 more doors coming out soon! ~ they were poor quality doors, steam up between the double panes...leaked water on inside of house...list goes on and on! ....
but maybe they can be of better use somehow? even if painted and just stood upright in the middle of a garden bed? all sorts of ideas swarming my head now! lol!
I saw somewhere an idea about suspending them and using for a table, potted plants and such. My brain is swarming and I don't even have one. Make a nice henhouse door hung sideways, peek in at any time...still jealous.
getting outside yet?
I got out this morning to let the birds out. Let the kids use my truck so they can move out here. Then gotta go to town and get some metal and lumber and WILL get the coop built today. Oh yea gotta get some hardware cloth also. DH gave me 500 bucks to get it finished. The metal is going to cost about 200 bucks ughhhhhhhhh that stuff is expensive. Then I have a lady from freecycle tearing down a lean 2 this weekend and I get all the material from that. That will be for either my turkeys or Guineas.
EXCELLENT! tia, too bad you don't have a scarp metal center around you, they sell for less...
LL, i wouldn't worry about the sneezing unless it continues. it can be a sign of lots of things, or nothing. if it makes you feel better, feed them some garlic and onions today
I know what the garlic does for you tf but what do the onions do?
high in quercitin, a potent anti-oxidant
Thanks for the tips. I feel like a paranoid new mama again! I know about kid alements (sp?), and dog and cats, but nothing about chickens!
Grownut & Anjl,
More old window ideas:greenhouse built entirely of them, use them in your out buildings, I used an antique door (with the windows removed) as a trellis for a passion vine, I'm going to use another couple as an outdoor screen for a sitting area,....etc...etc...etc... ~8-D
AAArgghhh....you tease me most merciless...
oooh! great...now I have to DECIDE which project to do! or collect more doors! tee hee!
You mean which project to do FIRST? I suspect you'll get more doors before you're too far along.
