strange cuke?

Centennial, CO(Zone 5a)

I have a bunch of cucumber vines growing together up a tepee. I planted some from seed, but since I wasn't sure my seed was going to take, I also bought a plant from the local garden center. There were several sprouts in the pot so I separated them out to plant around the tepee. Anyway, for weeks now I've been happily harvesting lots of nice smooth, shiny dark green cucumbers all at around 8 inches long every few days (2 slightly different varieties). And then today I went out went out & found this monster - already at least 16" long! I never even saw it coming, but now that I've looked, I seem to have at least one or maybe 2 vines of this type. Anybody know what they are?

Could it be an Armenian Cucumber? Looks like it.

Looks just like the Armenians in my garden.

Cool! Thanks you guys. I've never grown Armenians (obviously) so I'm happy to have a new one to try. Any tips?

The kids next door to me like it sliced and dipped in ranch dressing. Armenians grow in the desert during the hot months without much work on my part. I just have to keep heading the vines back to the trellis so they don't take over the garden.

Lucky you! My Armenian cuke bit the dust, followed shortly after that by the Armenian tomato!!! Guess those Armenians don't like my garden!!! Thankfully, the Japanese do. I have a very nice batch of Japanese Climbers coming in. Been getting one a day for a couple of weeks now. Perfect for me, too bad for the neighbors!

I'd gladly trade my Armenian cuke for some of those nice lookin' tomaters, Sequee! Nice harvest!

That's a seed pod from one of my daturas. It popped open outside and I porpped it up so the seeds wouldn't spill everywhere. It does look a bit lethal, doesn't it???

And how do you like my one and only ear of corn. Groan...it's all of 4" long!!! Sure tasted good, but barely a burp! Hopefully there will be more to come...

It's a cactus, isn't it fab!?! For years it was very simple, then all of a sudden it started growing all the danglies! I love it!

That plant that lisabees is growing certainly does appear to be an Armenian "cucumber", which, just to be clea,r is not, in fact, a cucumber at all, but a melon, Cucumis melo, Flexuoso group. It won't cross with your cucumbers, but if you also grew melons this year (not watermelons, which are Citrullua lanatus) and were planning to save seeds, you now undoubtedly have hybrid "Armenian muskmelons"!

No melons for me (except that Armenian cuke) but thanks for the info.
