Dinner Plate Hibiscus Seed wanted

Louisville, KY

It has been some time since I have been to the Seed Exchange Thread. I would like to find a variety of colors of Dinner Plate Hibiscus seed. I have a few varieties of common garden flowers. I am saving Heirloom Tomato seed now and these will be ready sometime early fall. I have a few other kinds of Heirloom varieties enough to share with a few trades.
I look forward to hearing for some of you who grow the Dinner Plate Hibiscus..

Gary, I'm not certain what a dinner plate hibiscus is? Is it the hardy hibiscus like Copper King? If so, I may have some seeds for you in a bit too.

Thank You so much I will keep them till spring. Do you have a suggestion when I can start the? In Sokane WA we can't plant till after mothers day because of possible frost.
I wonder if they could be started in the house and left in a large Flower Pot.?
I don't know if I have any seed that you would like, I have red poppy seeds. Purple Hollyhocks and shades of pink. Seeds from a plant that I don't know the name after it stops blooming.

Is a dinner plate hibiscus the same as a hardy hibiscus?

Beautiful bloom Andre

Chesapeake, VA

Well...my Lady Baltimore hibiscus made some seeds, if anyone wants to trade for those. My Texas star hibiscus is about to bloom, so it will hopefully be making seeds, too.

Blackshear, GA(Zone 8a)

Hi Starlight, yes, they are about 8'' to 9" in diameter, both of them, hardy and about 24" tall.
Brightstar, I'd like your Lady Baltimore and Texas Star, that is if you want to trade? André

Cave Spring, GA(Zone 7a)

Gary, I have hot pink dinner plate hibiscus that just finished blooming. If nothing happens to the seed pods, I will be glad to send you some seeds. Linda

I have these pink ones if you are interested. I have tons of seeds and will send at least 24 if anyone else wants some. If you want to trade, I'll take any variety of Marigolds, Snapdragons, Pansy's, Lantana, dark purple crape myrtle, or check my Wants list. Otherwise, just send an SASBE. Ella knows me too well! Thank you, my dear Ella!
I made a similar post on several of my gardening sites and have had little to no response.
I must say that I am overwhelmed with all the responses you folks have made. What a great group of sharing folks you are! I think I have responded to most of your posts. My old age forgetfulness sometimes plays tricks with me!
Thank each of you so much!

Hi Gary, the seeds will be mailed tomorrow morning, I was too late for the postman this morning. Thanks again for trading. André

Hi I am wondering if I can save the seeds from my row of Lilac's and how?
Would they make bushes.

Louisville, KY

Marciaspe, I don't have Lilacs but I love to smell them. This information may be helpful to you as found on line.
When the pod dries and starts to split, you will find 4 chambers (two on each side). In each chamber you will find one papery seed which, just so you know, doesn't always want to fall right out and may need to be coaxed out with a toothpick or something.
n the other hand, lilacs can be difficult to grow from seed, even if you collected some good filled seed. Oh, certainly, give them a chance. Plant them. It's worth a shot. Just don't count on them to sprout up and grow.

Did it look like a bunch of bananas pointing outward on the end of the stem?. Very hard, surfboard shaped seed looking things that overlapped like a bunch of bananas tha's it. They will turn brown and start to crack open when they are ready to harvest.

HI, I do not know if this might help. Years ago, I had to dig a hole by lilacs and forgot to fill the hole. When I came back to the hole, there was a lot of little ones growing from the roots. André

Greenacres, WA

That is a very good idea. Maybe it will work for me.
Thanks Marcia

Louisville, KY

Lilacs do have a root system which sends out new shoots and this would be a much quicker way of adding new plants to your garden. These roots are usually very close to the surface of the soil.

I've got baby crabapple trees growing from the roots of out tree. DH keeps mowing them down but they keep coming back!

Here's one I have. All I know is it's a hardy hisbicus. I have never saved the seeds from this plant. I should freeze the seed pods for 3 weeks? Any advice on how to save the seeds would be appreciated. And I'm happy to trade with anyone. This plant has to be 10 years old.

Hello I would love a few seeds however I don't know if I have any thing to trade.
the seeds I have are Holly Hocks in 3 colors some Kiwi seeds that I harvested from the ones I have. & Orange Poppy seeds.

Chesapeake, VA

A limited amount of Lady Baltimore seeds harvested, and the Texas Stars are blooming but no seed pods yet...soon...probably just enough for Smegtone, LiliMerci, and VGMKY.

Winterville, GA(Zone 8a)

Just to be on the safe side roserairie, I would freeze the hibiscus seeds as soon as you harvest them. I have just experienced a problem with weevils. See this post: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/896389/

I'm so disappointed cuz I harvested at least a 3/4 cup of seeds only to have them eaten from the inside out. The good news is, there are more buds! This time I'll know to freeze the seeds as soon as I harvest them.

JoAnn

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

I threw the pods in the freezer - thanks. I'm sure the kids will think I have candy in the bag!!! I do that with chocolate sometimes for a quick chill and then forget I have it in there!

I have seeds of a pretty marigold to share.
Brightstar if you have any Lady Baltimore seeds left would love to get a few.
roserairie, frausnown & any of the others would love to trade with you, too.
Thanks so much.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Lavatera, two colors - pink and white, yellow morning glory, mex. sunflower, red 4 o'clock and some white 4 o'clocks and a perennial, Lynchis - red. Just dmail me with your address. This is the first year I didn't grow marigolds but I would love some seeds - what variety do you have? Here's the white lavatera.
