jasminum sambac... some cultivar of that

Chichester, NH(Zone 5b)

HI chantell....I agree with 1cros3nails4gvn it is some type of Sambac...maybe 'Mali Chat' or 'Mysore Mulli'.....is the scent as gorgeous as it's cousins?

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Fragrance is very nice...maybe not quite as strong as Maid of Orleans but a typical fantastic Sambac scent. Wish there was a definitive method of telling the Sambacs apart. 98% of my Jasmines are in pots...so you can only imagine..LOL. I just hate to hold onto duplicates...with limited room...plus know there are others that would enjoy them. This one does not look exactly like any of my others and the DG sweetie that was kind enough to share with me was hoping we could ID it somehow...I'm no help and utterly clueless unfortunately. She thought possible Belle of India...

Chichester, NH(Zone 5b)

Looking at my jasmine book from Tops it says that Belle of India has medium sized flowers (up to 2" in diameter), double, and having narrow elongated petals. It's leaves are paired, lightly wrinkled and pointed and a dull yellowish shade. Says the flower scent of this variety is distinct and has an intense aroma.......that may help in identifying it a little more.....I'm sure we'll get it eventually.

You are so sweet to look that up for me....these are more on the same size w/the Maid of Orleans....not nearly 2"....hmmmm.....

Chichester, NH(Zone 5b)

I'd be tending more towards Mysore Mulli.....have a look on tops website and do a search for Mysore Mulli.....looks pretty close to your photo to me.

I'll look that up...thank you so much

Chantell, I believe your lovely flower is a J.S. Flora Plena.
Logees greenhouse, J.S. id's:
http://www.logees.com/products.asp?dept=&pagenumber=9&sort_on=title&sort_by= Top Tropical has an excellent Jasmine Sambac ID page.

Top Tropicals: varieties of Jasmine Sambac with good information about each one: http://www.toptropicals.com/cgi-bin/store/store.cgi?group,alphabetic_list,letter,first_mid=,1,J,&group=&alphabetic_list=1&letter=J&first_mid=

Made a trip to Logees Greenhouse and stocked up on the J.S.'s. What a treat....their catalogue is a mere drop in the ocean vs their Greenhouses (when last I went there they had 6 greenhouses. I think they have doubled that number!!!)! Love visiting - a bit in the middle of nowhere, though! The Belle of India was in bloom - climbing up a pole in the greenhouse....exquisite fragrance. The rampant JS I have creeping all over the ground is defintiely J.S. Maid of Orleans. Chantall, but as mentioned on another posting, mine has a very weak fragrance, unfortunately. Must be the soil......mmm, maybe my nose as well...........!!! :)

Joanmary - thank you...I'll take a peek. I too love Tops site...lots of info...great pics...and more plants for my wish list then I'll have in a life time...LOL God help me if I lived near Tops or Logees....I'd need a 2nd and 3rd job to finance my wants. ^_^ As we spoke of before - I would have to agree regarding the "soil" thought with regard to fragrance. My MOO obviously is in a pot...and is probably one of my strongest scent jasmines....course I've not exp. a NBJ yet but mine has buds...so we'll see. What an amazing trip that must have been..did it feel like heaven or what?!?!?

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

I don't think it's a Flora Pena. The photos of this flower petals on Daves' plant file are curly/wavy.

edited to say - I love Logee's. I haven't bought from them in a long time but I can't even imagine being able to GO to their nursery. I would be in heaven!

I may just have to leave the sweet girl nameless and simply enjoy her beauty and fragrance!!

:)

I got my first Sambac this year, Maid of Orleans. I love her. The Poet's jasmine is cranking out the blooms, but the little Sambac steals the show with her subtle, sweet blooms.
