Hardy Hibiscus in Zone 6 - wow!

Stony Point, NY

I just wanted to share. I didn't know what was growing there last year. This year, I definitely know!

This is my hardy hibiscus. Took the pic this mornin. I'm in northern Rockland County, NY.

It's always impossible to find plants that deer, groundhogs, rabbits and chipmunks don't eat that are pretty. Found one!

YAY!

That is a beautiful hibiscus. I hate to tell you but here in SC the deer even eat the hardy hibicus. It may be because we have been in such a long drought and the deer are now munching on things that they usually don't. Hope that your deer stay away from that beautiful bush!!

Oh No! Deer eat these!? I have a nice patch of them in bud around my pond! I better get the "Deer Fence" spray out, there was a doe down there this AM but so far had not messed with them. I'd sure hate to see them eat off about 50 buds! They are sneaky critters like that, they wait til just before the roses open & nip them off! One year I had a start from my flower shop. I had put a bunch of mixed rose canes in sand, not expecting any to really start & one did, it took it 3 years to get to a bud & when I was waiting for it to open to see what rose it might be, the darn deer nipped that bud right off. Rats! had to wait another few weeks to see it bloom. It was a yellow one!
I heard that it is a sicienctific fact that once Deer's lips touch rose petals they turn into Vennison!
