What is it about Sam?

I just pulled the third dead Sam — rotted— from its pot. The first two were a a nice size and healthy when they arrived. The third was smaller, but likewise healthy. Different sellers! It's ME!!!! I lost the first one overwintering in the greenhouse which I kept at a minimum of 45ºF. I thought it was less cold tolerant. So this spring I bought another one. I treated it as I did my other Brugs. They thrive, Sam dies. I potted this last one in a 1 gallon container because it had a small root system. It didn't help. Here it is, several weeks after I bought it and it too is dead.

If your Sam is thriving, do you water it less than other Brugs? I must be overwatering. Is it more finicky that other Brugs? I want one so badly — kept alive of course not just it's corpse!

I taught myself to stop over watering a couple that don't like it by using a clay pot! Works great.. cause you just can't hardly over water it in the heat...

I have Sam and only water him a couple of times a week..I dont think he likes it too wet.
I have had the same thing happen to me with 3 Dorthea's and 3 susanne.. Am trying for a 4th time with Dorthea and forgetting Susanne.. too much money going down the drain.. I am killing them with love and kindness..lol
Peanut doesnt like it too wet either.. this is my 3 rd and he is doing great so is Pink Smitty.

Drowning has been my favorite mode of murdering plants too. Didn't know Dorthea didn't like a lot of water. Guess I'd better hold back a little.

I think water ( too much) is what killed mine..started getting soft and was gone.
This new one I just got I will only give a little water every other day and see what that does.

Next time I try Sam, I'll use a clay pot and see what happens. I haven't tried Dorthea or Susanne yet. Dorthea is on my want list because of those beautifully long tendrils. I've killed one Peanut so far, but haven't replaced it.
