My plumie from Aruba bloomed!

Sunset Beach, NC(Zone 8a)

March '07 I "borrowed" this cutting while in Aruba and I'm delighted to see her blooming. Interesting that she's not as deep a pink as she was in Aruba growing -- she's rather pale here. Her fragrance is also rather faint, but sweet. I've been negligent to most of mine this year so I'm happy to have any blooms.

Very nice, Barbara! Is it in full sun? You may get some darker colors as the summer progresses.

Very full sun! I was thinking once we get past this intense August weather, I might get better color.

A little faint and a little sweet scent.

With mine usually the hottest part of day is the strongest. This morning at 5;30 I was picking a couple flowers for show and tell there was very faint scent. This one usally has a strong scent but plumies are heat motivated.

I am experiencing a problem with my seedlings. They germinate and grow with 4 to 6 leaves, but at the soil line the aprox 1/4" diameter plant shrinks to just a thread. I have tried replanting plant and also streightening plants and filling pots with extra soil. So far the green leafs are turning yellow or brown. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone have a cause.

yellowrock you might want to post that in your own thread w/an applicable title so it gets attention and folks can help you out some.

If you are getting shrinking of the stems at the soil line, the seedlings are probably getting too dry and desiccating right there. You can cut above the desiccation, dip in rooting hormone, and re-plant them, and they may re-root.

I allowed some of my seedlings to get too dry and had to do the same thing, and they all re-rooted, even the tiny ones. Be sure to water your seedlings well to prevent this. The leaves are turning yellow and brown from the lack of water they are receiving because the roots can no longer pick up the moisture and get it to the leaves.
