Another problem child

Sunset Beach, NC(Zone 8a)

This is the second season for this unnamed. Didn't do much more than this last year either. Do you think this is a virus showing up in the leaves. I know some bugs are getting to it, but looked at the motled variation in the leaves. Maybe I should just dig up and dispose of it??
Thanks for all your help,
Barbara

I don't think that pattern is consistent with a viral infection. That looks like classic insect
"stippling." It is or was most likely thrips or mites. Brugs are very prone to insect infestations- one of the "buggiest" plants there are. I would inspect for live insects and spray. No need to throw the plant away as you will likely have plenty more bugs in the future.

Thanks, fauna. I just sprayed for thrips, aphids, mites, etc. We'll see what happens.

Yeah.. looks like mites to me..darn things

It looks like the damage on mine, caused by looper caterpillars. Do you see any little black spots that look like tiny beads?

Look for the loopers in the crux of the leaves - they are very hard to spot, because they blend in with the leaves.

If you find them, dust the leaves with SEVEN, which you can get at any home improvement center.

Here is a site that shows a picture of the little X!*#'s that make a mess of the leaves of Brugs!

I would guess slugs too.. seems they always go for the lower leaves. You gotta wake up pretty early in the morning to catch em.. but they will travel up the trunks.. and go back down and hide during the day.

Also looks like classic mite damage.

I've lost the patience for problem brugs that don't produce.. just too hard to keep em!

Kay- I'll have to look for those little loopers. I get chewing from time to time, and usually I can find the Lepidoptera culprit and pick it off and feed it to the chickens. I had something munching last weekend that I could not find, so I will look at the axis of the leaf next time.

ZZ, I hadn't thought about the slugs. Yes, I'm seen a couple of those culprits. I find it interesting that they pick on particular brug and not another even when they're within a few feet of each other. I did spray for mites and I'll try to catch those nasty slugs. Thanks!
