I'm Concerned About Sam

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Sam is nine and has been with me (and Wallingford and Holly) for two weeks now. I have transitioned him from purina one crunchies and Fancy Feast to high quality, grain free canned food. He is eating two 6 oz cans a day. The last two or three days he has drunk very little water. He used to drink almost all of his bowl when he first moved in. For about a week now he has been urinating several times a day a smaller amount than when he first moved in when he urinated twice a day and a big puddle. I'm thinking that in the end the volume is about the same. Today I caught him licking his penis and I think he was doing that yesterday as well - just a couple of licks - not obsessive. He seems to be fine - demanding catnip twice a day and petting and brushing and playing with toys as often as possible. I have begun to let him roam around the house for a few minutes when Wallingford is outside.

My concern is that the change in peeing habit might indicate a urinary tract infection. He has never had one in the past. Maybe the switch to a all meat diet has caused the change - it certainly has made his feces smell less bad! What do you think?
