This is a note to let everyone know that some recent unsolicited emails have been sent out to forum members here and on other forums to join a new forum called "stemma".
This forum is not associated with the magazine Stemma in any way, and in fact seems to be run by the three DG members who were kicked off this year for using fake user-names to insult and fight with others.
Their use of the name "stemma" seems to be an effort to capitalize on the success of Stemma magazine, and the hard work that I and many other here have put into it.
It is much easier to take credit for the efforts of others, rather than putting forth any of your own, I suppose.
The fake "stemma"
I had NO idea that they are now soliciting others on this forum to join them. Cheeky bunch, they are!!!
Yes, I got an e-mail yesterday from someone named hoyagal Growing! The subject said: "Stemma" New Hoya Group and I thought it was something to do with the quarterly Stemma publication! But, when I went to the site they had given the link for I recognized one of the names as someone who had been booted from DG. I had participated in the Spring DL Hoya co-op so the person had my home e-address from that order. I sent the e-mail to my junk folder.
I too got that email. I recognized a name too and have not been back to that site.
And I got TWO e-mails soliciting me to join...I too recognized the names and just deleted the e-mails...what idiots...sigh...
Shelley
C ... I will forward it to you if you want to d-mail me your home e-address! You can get a laugh out of it along with the rest of us!
Ceedub,
Don't feel bad, I didn't get it either (sigh) . . I guess they don't like us. . . LOL
I got my first e-mail from dmichael himself, and I'm pretty sure it's because a long time ago before I knew about him, I actually bought a hoya from him (and it's pretty nice too :-))....anyhow, I think that's how he got my name...the second one is from that "hoyagal", who I think is his friend Sara, but I don't know how she got my e-mail address...probably from dmichael and they accidentally duplicated...anyhow, don't feel bad--unless you purchased something from him I doubt he knows how to find you....if he DID know who you were, I'm SURE he'd e-mail you :-)
Shelley
My e-mail came from the hoyagal too and I had no clue who she was. I have never spoken to her (Sara). dmichael had my e-address from the spring co-op, so I'm sure she must have gotten it from him.
No big deal ... it went into my junk file and since I did not respond to her e-mail, I'm sure I won't be hearing from them again.
Christine and Lourdes, don't feel badly, I wasn't invited either.
Perhaps our invitations were lost in the mail?
Yes Mark, I think that was it. . . . LOL
Thank God!
LOL, I'm normally more courteous but I didn't even RSVP, I just sent my invitation directly to junk mail! ^_^
I wonder why I didn't get an invite??
I feel so left out!!
:)
Gabi...what in the world happened??? I didn't get one either - wonder if it was something I said?
Very strange Carol - I would've at least thought you would've gotten one!!
lol :)
I got the invite about a week and a half ago and initially thought it was something Mark had put together, but when I saw Sara's name attached to the email, I knew what they were trying to do and deleted it. I think they are feeling left out, but it is pretty sleezy trying to capitalize on Mark's great work to snare unsuspecting people into their group.
Doug
I got the email and went to check it out. I'ts the same bunch that caused all that trouble, with a few new people from Gardenweb (I think).
I lurked a bit to see what it was all about and they have their own little club. ^_^ ^_^ ^_^
I haven't been back.
Eileen
I just went back to that place and I WAS BANNED. It's so pathetic that it's funny. He has spies every forum and doesn't like what he hears. I think he's very childish.
You are so right. Those 3 just can't deal with being shunned from the hoya community.
And yes, they have spies on every forum - so pathetic!! They probably pay people to join this forum just to know what is being said about them!!
I know of a person from another forum who was removed from the Garden a year or so ago and kept signing back up using new user names and even addresses (don't know how how that is possible with the address). Admin removed her every time.
Some people just can't seem to remember that DG is a business and that Dave & Company own the business and make the rules. I for one am so pleased with the way this Garden is run! I had never participated in an on- line forum before finding DG. Last year I signed up for a yahoo group but found it so difficult to navigate I asked the administrator to remove my name. I did sign up for Epiforums but have not really gotten into posting there and never visit because it is not the same. I've heard of one called Garden Web? or something like that but have never checked it out. I don't think any can compare to this one. I love the ease of navigating this site and everyone helping everyone else with everything from cultural tips to identification to just sharing chat like this!
Y'all are a great bunch!
When I checked out that site all I saw was a picture of dm sleeping...now...if that wouldn't turn off a person I don't know what would! I was banned from GW for defending a woman who got kicked off unjustly. Now that woman I defended maligns me every chance she gets....thank goodness she isn't on DG. This Garden has so few weeds and such good landscaping!!!
Carol ... VERY well said! I LOVE that description of this garden! Few weeds and good landscaping! I totally agree and I thank Dave & Co. for keeping this garden weeded. A well tended garden is a beautiful thing!
Ah, so true, the Gods of DG are good weed-pickers.
It is good to vent, but perhaps we should cool it before said DG gods pluck out this thread?
Ok, sorry. I didn't think about it being plucked since no one was fussing and fighting or being mean. But, some of our talk could be construed as gossiping and negative.
Thanks for the reminder Mark.
Mark, very good point.
I do want to thank you for making everyone here aware of what is going on with that Google "forum" - I think many of the people that were sucked in as members don't really know who's running it and what their intentions are.
And as for DG, I do have to agree that this is by far the best hoya forum - and it's because of all the members on here. Such a great sense of community, and everyone is out to help each other with only good intentions. Ok, I'm done being mushy :)
Gabi
I am brand new here. I also am addicted to hoyas. But I have to agree this is the garden I have ever been in. I need some private talk as I have read things about some of the people I think I have ordered from on ebay. EEEEKKK! Also, who is the pimpette?
Kerri
Hmmmmmm :) Kerri - growing up we were told "believe none of what you hear and half of what you see" (unless you hear the same thing from everyone then maybe it has some truth)....I am sure some one on this forum will fill you in...

LOL! hmmmmmmm!
Huh? I'm confused! Kitsyt/Kerri: I don't know a lot about hoyas but am learning a lot from the very knowledgeable folks here on this forum. I don't know what you mean by needing private talk. I have never bought anything on e-bay so I don't know anything about any of the sellers there. You might try checking out the Garden Watchdog if you are wanting to see what experience others have had with some of the vendors. I have no idea who you are referring to as the pimpette?%!
Welcome to the garden, you will love it here!
hmm ... I know I'm from the south and slow at times but I see you aren't so "new". Your home page shows you signed up in 2005. So are you just brand new to the hoya forum?
I am brand new to being a paying subscriber. I have always looked up plants here. I too do not know a lot about hoyas. I just love them and am addicted to buying them. We have no good greenhouses to purchase from here, and everything has pretty much to stay inside. Very dry, hot and then cold. My house has become a jungle.
Ha Ha Kerri is my proper name, Kitsy is the nickname I grew up with! Either will do.
Nice to meet you Kitsy ... cute nickname! I think you have come to the right forum if you love hoyas! I never knew there were so many different ones out there!
The city I live in only has two nurseries left and they mainly carry trees, shrubs and landscape plants, only a few house plants like ivy and philodendron. Last year I found hoyas at Home Depot, Lowes and Wal-Mart garden centers but for some reason this year the Exotic Angel plants at those places are all ivy (lots and lots of ivy) and a few other generic plants ... no hoyas anymore. I know next spring I will want to order more!

With a name like Kerri you MUST grow a H. kerrii!!! Slow steady grower...but lovely leaves.
My last post on this thread.
I just had to say - I am an older, Southern Lady ... but I am not really slow. I think my reading between the lines was spot on.
