Newbie needs help! What type of pink brug is sun tolerant?

Whitesboro, TX

I've seen so many pretty pics on this thread that I want to try brugs but don't know which 1 to pick! I'm a zone 7 (well actually just a few miles from being an 8 ) & am looking for (2) true pink brug (don't mind some white on it but no yellows or salmon - just a pretty pink) 1 that will be planted in full southern exposure ( will be watered regularly but no shade from the mean Texas July heat ) & the other 1 that will be planted w/morning sun exposure till about 2 pm then will be mostly shaded. Now my question is what type & culivator should I look for? I'm asking y'all because you are alot more experienced w/them than I am & I've seen some of the prices of them & don't want to pay big $$$ for something that is going to bite it in the middle of the cruel Texas summer. Any links to learn more or best places to purchase would be greatly apperciated to! Thank you for taking the time to read my post & may your gardens be green & beautiful ( I'm pretty sure this last heat wave has left me w/ watering weeds here..LOL at least the pepper plants love it!). Thanks for all your help DGers & have a nice weekend, Carol aka Catssdawg2

Carol, an east facing location should be perfect for a Brug, but a south facing location, especially if it will be planted against a wall or the house would be too hot and sunny for a Brug. Some of the older ones like Isabella might be able to handle it if away from any reflective surfaces. Some of those newer ones that are completely pink may not be as cold hardy. Mickey from Arizona started a thread late last year about heat tolerant Brugs, but that doesn't mean that they will survive full sun. Many plants that are supposed to thrive in full sun elsewhere, need some partial shade here in Texas because the sun is so intense. Also in zone 7, the Brug will die back to the ground, but given plenty of mulch, it should come back from the roots so you need to look for a hardier Brug. I've included the link to the list we made of heat tolerant Brugs. I would suggest you take the time to go through the PlantFiles and look for the hardier ones. Unfortunately, there is no mention of whether the Brugs are overwintered in the ground when some of the colder zones are mentioned.

bettydee, Thank you so much for the info. I've seen the pics of the FL ones & have fallen in love w/them & was hoping to find a good one that would grow here. I'll take your advice & try the shade one only & see if I can find something a little more sun tolerant for the other section (was hoping for a matching set of brugs but 1 is better than none!). Like I said I'm missed being a zone 8 by like 15 miles & will take your advice to mulch over for the winter. Thanks again for the info & have a great day gardening, Carol aka Catss

I grow brugs here in Deep South Texas where it's hot and humid..my brugs need to be in
partial shade /with morning sun seems to work the best for me.
