Love in the Kingdom of Shadowood

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

While waiting for the ibuprofen to kick in so that I can continue working in the iris beds, I thought I'd offer this romantic novella to tide you all over until I have time to provide in-depth updates.

Once upon a time, a very young and sickly princess found her way into the Kingdom of Shadowood, a modest community of wayward travelers who stopped for respite and decided to stay. Tiny princess Roxie recovered from her fragile state and also decided to call Shadowood home.

As Roxie grew up into a young lady, her demanding nature grew as well. She decided she was no longer content to simply live among the masses. She wanted more. She wanted to be loved and tended by the handsome but leery Champion of the Kingdom, Pippin. You see, Pippin had been spurned by many of Roxie's kind in the past, so he was very apprehensive when the princesses of the Kindgom came near. Pippin would keep a respectful distance and dared not acknowledge their presence lest he receive yet another painful scolding.

But Roxie could not be dissuaded. She had it in her mind to win the love and attention of Pippin in spite of his cautious nature. She began her courtship of the reluctant suitor by slipping in beside him while he napped. This made dear Pippin very uncomfortable, for he knew not her intentions.
