I have a question
my friends went up the coast and on sunday and got back today (thursday)
on sunday they got some green chicken eggs off a friends farm and some other eggs
she gave them to me so i could incubate them only problem is she refrigerated them (NO!!!!!!!) any way i know refrigerating them kills them but i am going to try incubating anyway
is there a one in a billion chance that ANY could still be viable
anyones feedback is welcome
Josh
can u hatch refrigerated eggs (realy stupid question)
I dont think its a stupid question :o) I'm pretty smart and would have asked too!
what have ya got to loose?
well i am incubating them now
i realy doubt anything will happen but there is a first time for everything and as u said What have i got to lose.
still information would be better than waiting 3-4 days to check for fertility:)
ahh...but the anticipation :o)
they probably wont be but it would be good to have some green egg layers and there are mystery eggs there too.well they are all mystery eggs but the green eggs come from green egg layers i know that much
How frustrating! I would try too. Maybe her fridge wasn't cold enough--or may they were only in for a short time? I hope you instructed her not to do it again:0)
(Or hid the body well...)
LOL it wasnt her fault she new i was intrested in green eggs so she got them as a suprise but i had never told her not to refrigerate them.but oh well
I think I'd be more interested in knowing if there were any roosters on that farm. :>) That alone will tell you if you have a chance.
Hopefully though, if the eggs didn't go below 40-45º for an extended period of time you might end up with something (if they were fertile to begin with).
Will be crossing fingers and rooting for ya!
Shoe
i was told that even after seven days of incubastion they are edible. that is, if they just candle clear. i didn't try it though... hope they weren't jostled too much!
btw, josh, did you get that package yet? i sent back the case of chickenitis patches, got 125 heritage chicks today...
tf
lolol! tf... ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE!!!
can I have some?! tee hee!
Wow Josh, what a bummer. I would at least try too. What can ya lose? Sure hope they weren't too cold & hatch out for you. If candle well, may take them an extra day or two to hatch. wouldn't call it quits too early if they look viable.
Good luck! i'm pulling for ya!
Which breeds tf? just curious what ya chose
come and get them, but you have to take some grown birds too!
Rose Combed Brown Leghorns and Buckeyes, my original breed i started with two years ago, and Welsummers and Delaware Pullets. will be about a week before i can tell the browns apart, no signs of combs yet... i never wanted white birds, but have decided i need hatching eggs for sex links, so why not use heritage breeds? gonna cross a buckeye roo with 'em...

Good idea! & I liked the Welsummers, & Delawares. Fun to watch. Welsummer roo reminds me of the classic American farm bird (weather banes too). I really liked them a lot. Hope you do! Never had the others -- may some day, just not yet.....
That would be fun, to see what the cross breeds turn out like. I never tried crossing those breeds. Could prove to be very interesting! How do Buckeyes fly? My Delawares thought they were birds. Did pretty well at it too....maybe get more of a Game type bird out of them???
Josh, I want to know how the candling turns out, K?
i will candle them on (our) sunday
yes there were roosters on the farm
and tamara yes i did get the package i thought u had a splurge but not that big of a splurge LOL
Hey Josh, hope it works for ya, will be waiting for sunday along with ya.
:)
I can hardly wait....When's Sunday?
Just checked. Sounds like tomorrow afternoon...

Wow Lucky! That is GREAT news. Apparently, others have had great results and it is suggested to fridgerate??? I had no idea! Assumed that was a huge no-no?
Pulling for ya! ^_^

rah! rah! rah! cheering you on! :D
after reading that thread i actualy think there might be a slight possibility that i might get even one chick
(PLEASE GOD)
hey, Lucky Josh, everynow and then you might want to check the forum for new threads...
tee hee! you mean for surprises?
well, i ugess it is night time there and he had a hot tottie and went to sleep....
i know i found it tamara thank you :)
NOW, you have to tell us, have you candled yet?
yes i can see somthing red in one of the lighter eggs but that could just be a blood ring so fingers crossed
i cant see anything in the other green eggs to dark :)
fingers are still crossed for ya here hope, hope, hope.....I have faith
i think my little red dot MIGHT be a little embryo
Yahoo! I'm pulling for you, too. I thought there'd be no way that you could successfully hatch a refridgerated egg... but that one link sure seems to differ!
i know
well one is definatly fertile i cansee veind and the embryo i cant see anything in any of the clear eggs and the other green eggs are two dark
yay! yippee! hurrah!
so happy for you! :oD
lets hope it hatches
well it died dont know why the fidge must of done somthing to this one after all
i candled it and the chic was not moving and there was a loss of blood vessels and a blood ring was starting to form
as i always do i cracked the egg open and it had a form and did not seem malformed but i am no expert.
but good news i got in contact with my friends friend and he said he might be able to ship me down some non refrigerated green eggs so i am waiting and hopefully i can still get little green egg layers
crossing fingers for you. apparently you should tell the CF you want EEs...
