Pavlova Dark Blue Aster

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Luv this Pavlova Dark Blue Aster. I start them from seed every year, from Veseys. Just starting to open. It also wintersowed successfully.

That is a pretty one. I can't resist blue flowers, but I've had so much trouble with aster yellows the past few years. I don't have any annual asters this year.

I agree - they're beautiful. I have some that self sowed from last year. They're just starting to stretch out their stems to make flower buds. They may be later than others' asters, but they'll be in bloom later in the year too :-)

Joanna I think I've gotten a bad case of blues envy! What a lovely flower.

Lilypon,

Veseys is the only source in Canada- seeds only. Did wintersow as well

Nice photo Joanna! I had those last year and they were really nice, how tall do yours get? Mine only made it to about 8 inches........
Heres pic from last summer with a little photoshop ;)

Mine is currently just over 3 feet. Last year I had planted it in a container & it was a bit too tall. It is much better in a flowerbed.

Thanks Joanna :) We're probably putting in a cutting garden next summer so I was thinking the asters would be a nice addition!

Thanks for the info Joanna........I'll be eye-balling that catalog this winter! :)
