Is it this way all over the Carolinas? It is 94 here today and when I went into town it was 104. I just turned my sprinklers on to give the poor plants a break from this unbearable heat. I usually love it when it gets really hot but not this year.
It's HOT
The low country is a blaze. Just mowed my back yard thinking cooler is better. The heat has seemed to get the bugs in a frenzy. Can't catch a break today. In land it was up around 100 degrees today.
yep they called for 95 for us but we got above 100 too (surprise surprise). tomorrow, last time i checked they said 99... i can only imagine how it will be tomorrow.
It's hot here too, Ardesia! True tropicals don't seem phased, but I sure am! Knock off at 12 noon,. and don't go out there no more (till the next morning). I'm definately getting old!
I have to say my citrus trees are growing like crazy right now. Every day for the last week they all have put out branches and new leaves. Can't say the peach trees are enjoying the weather.

plumerias are loving this, but my ti's are all burning.
In the past years, the mosquitoes and sand gnats virtually disappeared when the temp went up; they seemed to prefer the same moderate temps I did. This year it is another story; we are having record temps and record numbers of bugs. Weird.
Stono, I am so impressed - Noon you say???? Wow, it is a little after 8 am and I am already done for the day.
so far we are at 105 at my house
I don't know what the high was today, but at 3pm, wunderground had it at 104 in Summerville. (But, it was a dry heat - the humidity was only 41%!)
Deb
I saw 101 at about 4:30.
That is funny (and unusual) Deb. Humidity and dew points have been in the high 70's here all week.
One of my sons just moved from Colorado to Asheville last week and he is having a devil of a time getting adjusted to the humidity again. It was in the 90's in CO but they rarely used AC out there. Most of the houses don't even have it.
Hi everyone! HOT is the word! My son had football practice yesterday and after practice they told him it was 125 on the field with the heat index. I am surprised they didn't get heat stroke! They're only practicing til 12 today. We're supposed to get a "cold front" tonight and bring it back down to the low ninetys....that will feel great!
Hot & dry here in the upperstate area(S.C.).
Yesterday on the channel 7 weather we were listed in "extreme" drought.
Colorado was so dry I could feel my brain shrinking as soon as I got off the plane. After living here it was very much a shock to go out there. I could feel myself drying out by the hour.
Big old t-storm blew through an hour ago. Temps dropped to low 80s. Ahhhhh!
This weekend, I have to spend the day at a charity basketball tournament - in a non-air-conditioned gym in N. Charleston! Oh pleeeez, let it be below 90!
that thunderstorm got us too! it was pretty bad for us
Deb, that was round 1 .. round 2 will be in in a half hour or so when I looked at the radar!

xmascactus - you must be by me...Newberry was added to the list Tuesday I think along with 6 other counties....hard to believe cola is not on the list...guess they get the black hole rain by lake murray lol storm passed by us without a drop tonite...darn...
I've been watching the papers for watering restrictions - I don't normally read the local newspaper - not much in it - but I am housesitting for someone right now too so when I turned on the sprinklers there today for awhile and then saw the police come down the side road I was like - OMG I wonder if they've called for no watering...I can see it now...my housesitting money going down the tubes to pay for a ticket LOL
soooo..... who's loving this cool weather
The temp is down to 84 but it is still pretty humid. We had a humdinger of a storm last night with 60 mph winds and branches flying everywhere. A neighbor's home was hit by a marauding pine tree and another lost the whole top of an enormous and ancient Live Oak. We just had the 3M film put on our new windows and I thought for sure we were going to find out if it works. The river started out with white caps and then, as the storm progressed, it had large breaking rollers, just like you would see at the beach.
I spent the morning picking up branches and about 4 million pine cones. Thankfully I didn't see any significant damage in the garden. My containers were blown all over so there were lots of broken stems but nothing serious.
In the end we got a measly 1/4" of rain.
nothing really happened here but a few twigs. we got 50-60 mph gusts. palmettos were rocking like nothing else before. one of my plumerias was bent at the tips all in the same direction but they're straight now. we got a tad bit more than an inch here in western bluffton
Oh no, Ardesia, only 1/2"??
We got quite alot - looks like about 1 1/4". I also just spent quite some time picking up branches and pine cones. I'm amazed nothing really big came down. They lost power about 8 blocks from us when a pine limb took out a power line, but we were lucky.
It does feel so much cooler today. Funny how it's "all relative", as they say.
Deb
We got almost no rain with the front passing but this is one heavenly Saturday morning for August in the Carolinas.
maybe its me but it seems real hot and humid here today... oh well im going to the beach anyways
