I have one and it looks like it should be burst forth anytime.....how long does it take.....We have had quite a bit of rain and I wonder if the weight of the water might hinder the opening of the bloom.

I have a cactus like this, it is about 15 years old, it is now appx 12 feet high. This year so far we have had 19 flowers bloom. If you look to the left of the door, you can see the cactus. This pic is from 2007 so it is even taller then in this pic.

Cereus cochabambensis is relatively rare in the USA, it may be possible you have a different species of Cereus by your front door, but the Cereus' blooming habits are all about the same.
When I've had more rain in my naturally dry climate, then I've had more blooms and fruit.

tesaje,
What you have pictured above is Cereus cochabambensis.
Cereus fernambucensis doesn't get that tall or big.
Would you like your 2 photos moved to the right page?

Xeno.

WOW PlanteraLoca, your cactus looks so great. I am amazed you could grow that in NJ. It doesn't turn to mush in the winter?

tesaje, your flower is so pretty. How tall is your cactus?

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Here is another photo of tesaje's cactus which shows the height.

Hi Kell, when I bought this cactus it was 2ft tall, then it grew straight up to 12 ft but was blown over by the wind so we planted the top in the same pot as the bottom. The top continued to grow and the bottom sprouted arms, the more we cut it the more arms it gets, I named it *Roberta* (lol) from the "Little House of Horrors " movie, over the years we have had to cut it because it won't fit in my foyer, we have it down to a science bringing it in. I bring it in about at the end of October or the begining of November, it all depends how cold it is, but it's on the south side of the house so it is protected from the north winds. I think it is going to be a very cold winter here this year, the wooly caterpiller is very dark brown.

HI Xenomorf, I have limited access to the forums here ( non-subscriber ),( I assume you are a moderator to have the ability to move files),so if you move it I might not be able to access it and chat with you all. If it's ok, I'd like to leave it here if I'm allowed to, I put it here because of the post your pic option. So when I bought this cactus I thought it was a Column Cactus and didn't know it got flowers, either way, it's a cool plant, I've had it for appx. 17 years or so. We gave away a plant that was just as big because I had no where to keep it. But my husband and I are garden nuts so we are always growing something somewhere and taking cuttings and multiplying our plants...that is why I am PlanteraLoca.........aka.......crazy plant lady lololol! ( big smile here ). Nice to meet you two cyber friends.

PlanteraLoca,
I cannot move files myself, an error report needs to be sent in to the Admin.
But when the author of the photo agrees that their photo should be moved, then that gives the go-ahead.

I believe you still be able to chat because the conversation stays with the photo thread. The thing that you will notice that will change will be the name of the plant at the top of the thread.
It is very important that the photos of the plant species be in their correct page so that it is not misleading to others trying to identify thier plant.

Your photo of the house & cactus will remain in this thread.
I was referring to the top photo of the flower that is misidentified.

As far as your photo being Cereus fernambucensis, it is too big and tall to be that.
I would have to see a closeup of the spines to be able to see exactly which species you have.

Happy Gardening,
Xeno.
