Update on Aggiegrl's Old Garden

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

hey guys,
well, i feel sick! i just finished moving out of the house on Friday and went by this evening to pick up the mail (forgot to get forwarded, will do that tomorrow). anyway, they had already been hard at work on the yard. they cut down or dug up everything that was left, except for the shrubs. the shrubs were trimmed down so far, they looked sooo pathetic and cookie cutter. of course, i took most of the plants, but i left all the cast iron plants, some cannas, caladiums, elephant ears. i was shocked! the house looked naked. i really thought i would cry. i am so very glad i was able to get most all my plants (with the generous help of you DGers), otherwise, i am sure they would have done away with all of them. anyway, just thought i would give you an update.

Tracie I know this has been a really hard transition for you and your children. I'm glad you were able to have help and get most of your lovely plants. I'm keeping you in my thoughts. ;)

after the landlords people got ahold of it. of course we got most of the plants, but there were quite a few left, especially in the end bed with cast iron plants, cannas, caladiums.

shrubs severly cut back, these are ones that i transplanted and babied a couple of years ago. was sad to see them like this. you might notice that the brick half wall is falling apart, the landlord said they were going to fix that right after i moved in. almost 3yrs later, still not fixed. that is one reason i planted so much close to the bricks to hide it.

What a shame. The landlord probably would have better luck renting the house if it looked like it did when you lived there.
You had it fixed up very nice.

What a huge difference! You really put a lot of love into the yard making it look like a welcoming home. I wonder if they got rid of all the plants around the perimeter of the house so that the foundation can be seen. That's supposedly a big thing when selling your home and having it inspected. They have to be able to see the foundation to look for cracks.

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

well, i know they are not selling the house. this landlord owns over 100 homes in our area and they dont sell them. maybe they are going to finally repair the bricks and needed accesss. i really dont know any other reason. of course, the landscapers cut down many other plants that werent by the house, such as those in the pool area. it seems that anything that wasnt a shrub was chopped.

Well Tracie, that's a shame, but not to worry now. You know nature has a way of rejuevenating itself, from a seed, a root, a bulb still left in the ground...and will in time offer some beauty to those around it..here's wishing you brighter tomorrrows...

you are right, there are tons of stuff sleeping right now that will pop out this autumn and next spring. i was really sad that i couldnt find them right now. i am planning on asking the new renters if i can get some after they come up. especially the heirloom bulbs.

Hello everyone,

The Dave's Garden story about aggiegrl's Day Lily move publishes today! :-)

Here is the link:

P.S. Please do NOT mention the ex-husband in any comments on the story as we want to leave the story for aggiegrl's children to enjoy.

Thanks,

April

It was great seeing the story again. I remember hearing the NPR broadcast, too.

My favorite line in today's story - "What time is it - DayLILY saving time".

A big thank you to all those who were able to make this "plant-move" happen.

Tracie,
I had no idea of your story and the DG angels here. It is sad of your loss of flowers but the love and friendship you've gained is priceless in comparison. You go girl.

When i came here i did'nt know what special people you were but it's like i sensed it and loved you all immediately. Know i've felt welcomed by yall.
Thank you
Vickie
