I potted a bare hoya stem and now it's growing some leaves. Actually it didn't take too long, it's only been about 3 weeks.
Blessings,
Awanda
Don't toss that bare stem...
Nicely done Awanda!!!
Were they solid stems? I'm asking because I have some bare stems trying to root but they are softish...not brittle. Leave em for a bit longer maybe?
It was a solid stem; it was a really long cutting so I just rooted the part I cut. I wasn't really expecting anything, I just hated throwing the cut part away:-).
Blessings,
Awanda
LOL, Awanda ... I too hate throwing bits and pieces of plants away. I have even tried to root a dry brittle stem, which of course if it's dead, rooting ain't gonna happen! If it has even a little bit of soft green wood I will try, sometimes with good luck, sometimes not.
I have a 10 gal aquarium/terrarium that is overflowing right now from me sticking bits and pieces of plants in there. Everything from African Violet leaves, Episcia stolons to hoya cuttings! I keep saying I'm going to clean this thing out ... maybe one day this fall I will find some time to do just that.
Lyn, that is so pretty. It looks like a little fairy garden. All it needs are a few fairies and trolls.
I love it.
LOL, Imadigger, I dont think there's enough room in there for a fairy or troll - they would be hidden by all the plants. I did have a little teeny ceramic turtle in there for awhile but don't know where it went, might be buried! ^_^ Over on the Terrarium forum a couple of ladies do the fairy garden terrariums ... real cute!
Lin
plantladylin: That terrarium is sooo nice! Too bad you can't turn it into a Vivarium: a couple of little treefrogs and a source of water and some food....:-)
Nah ... I don't want frogs in the house. We have tons of little tree frogs outside and on the pool deck ... sometimes we have the invasive cuban tree frogs which are bad for Florida's ecosystem! The non native cuban tree frogs eat little anole lizards and other frogs and native critters of Florida. Have to humanely euthanize the bad critters when we find them!
I would still love to have a larger terrarium. Have hoped that my hubby would tire of his 150 gal Salt Water Aquarium ... boy would that be great for plants! But, alas he loves his corals and fish! One of these days I might do a larger one, it just wont be 150 gallons - takes up too much room and we have a small house!
Hi Lin,
I wish I could scoop up some of your naughty frogs - I'm looking for some for my classroom. That's a great idea, I could root plants in my empty tank. Hm....
You've just got the magic touch, Awanda!
I have 6 hoyas, but the only one that has ever bloomed is the Shooting Star hoya. What do you do differently Awanda?
