changes to my stream helped

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Thanks to positive words from Songsofjoy I managed to remove mountain rock from the pond and get more river rock. I widened 2 areas after getting a larger pump. It really made a difference with the rock. Here's one shot

EXCELLENT JOB Kathy!!!!! Very nice improvement. I hope you are much happier with it now!!??

I was waiting on you !!! I feel so much better now. The rock combo really made tons of difference. I had an older couple come by the house just to look at the issue and both studied it and I asked each - what is wrong. Both said the rock combo - river and mountain rock mixed. moved the river rock out, went to their house by the New River and got lots of rock and it really did make a difference.

Another difference came from the wide spots but also from moving away lots of plants. There were far to many and now there are low places where there are short plants and you can see the stream from areas without being on top of it to see beyond the plants.

THANK YOU !!!

I forgot to mention that I love the kitty too!

That is Houston who just turned 10 on Aug 1.

That is really pretty. Its funny how someone else can ID the problem when we can't! It truly is WONDERFUL!! You must be so pleased with your work!

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

That's awesome. I'm so happy that you're pleased with it. It really does look great! My stream brings me so much enjoyment - I'm sure yours will too. They're always a work in progress, but so much joy in the process!

No stream beats yours - it amazes me every time I look at it.

Just beautiful. It looks like a natural stream going through your yard. Not an easy thing to do!

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

It's back breaking that is for sure. I hate ROCKS !!!

Shihtzumom, nice work. I was away when you posted. Just catching up. Your planting is really filling in with such a nice natural look, but not at all messy. That is a hard thing to do. Congratulations.

SongsofJoy is such a good cheer leader and mentor and certainly an inspiration. We will be doing some rock moving this fall. The edges are not even close to being as natural looking as we would like. Patti

Kathy/Patti - You are too sweet. I have some rock work to do on mine as well. I think it'll always be a work in progress. Just when I think I've "got it" and I'm happy with how it looks; I see a picture or something else that makes me realize mine still needs some more work. Here it is after my most recent "renovations".

This fall after the plants die back I will probably do some serious work on the little waterfalls...

edited to fix typo

You guys are killing me with your ponds and waterfalls... I have to stop looking!!! I am having serious envy problems!

We need to get more big rocks in Vt and bring them back to Nantucket in the truck this winter. We have too many small rocks along the edges. An easy fix once I get some better rocks and a lots of energy. I think I can get DH to help. He will love hunting for the perfect moss covered stones along our real VT brook to lug back. Patti

Patti - that is beautiful. I had to many small rock as well. And the mix of mountain and river rock really was the biggest problem. How deep is your stream?

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

The lower part is only about 6" and the rest is all a series of falls down the hill so no depth at all. No fish. Here is a shot from July 22 that sort of shows the deeper end. I will take some new pictures today. Haven't taken any since then. While on our trip to Vt and Canada we saw some fine big rocks that were begging to come back to Nantucket, but I will wait until we have the cheaper winter truck rates. Patti

I learned from the older couple who helped me get real river rock, and made suggestions, that the moss was a MUST. You also have the moss and it really does make a difference. My stream and pond are in full sun all day. In a couple years the trees will be big enough to provide shade so hosta could be easily grown without having to take the full August sun. Even watering daily wouldn't help the intense heat.

What is the large leaf thing on the bottom of this picture?
