I was musing through Melody's thread on fall brassica planting. Here, there is nil bug pressure on spring planted ones, but heavy bug pressure in the fall...unlike those south of the river [Ohio].
I started broccoli and cauliflower seeds on June 16th and June 30th. I set the first ones out on July 10th because they were at optium size then [not too big]. Wow! These are getting huge already and will head soon. I have them getting about 1/3 shade and that is just right for them. The later ones are still smallish but will come on at a cooler time. So things are always a bit different each year!
Fall brassica
Well, I find things the other way around here. In warmer weather in the South, the cabbage moth butterfly's aren't so happy. But in the nice spring air, they come around rather early and decimate the crops. To ensure some good brassicas (since our weather has been outta wack the last few years) I bought some floating row coverings.
I don't much mind if my own food has holes in it, but I supply organic vegetables to a friend of mine, and he likes them perfect, and is just not used to a few bug holes!

Sounds like you're in good shape. Just keep an eye out for the awful cabbage worm. I'll make sure I plant seeds next summer because nobody around here has fall transplants.
People have talked about row covers for insect control. Sounds like a good idea to me.
I planted cabbage and brussel sprouts in early spring. Finally just pulled them up and threw them out. The cabbage moth did it's number and even we wouldn't try to find enough forage to eat. Have tons of butterfly magnets and have seen very few this year. But the white cabbage moth has been in abundance. Will probably not try again.
