I have lots of daffodils that I want to move to a different area. All of the leaves are finally brown. Would this be a good time to dig them up? Can I just store them until the fall? Should I put them in the refrigerator? I would like to get them out of their area now so I can prepare that area for something else..... Any suggestions?
thanks

Digging up Daffodils
Anne, They are dormant now, this is the best time to move them. They are a spring bulb and we plant the in the fall to bloom in spring. Make sure when you pull them up and clean them off a bit, Dust them with Bulb dust ( can't remember the exact name for it) Then when you put them in the new home, Amend the soil and add some bone meal. And good to go. I never had a problem doing it this way.

Tills
Thanks, Tillysrat (I'll bet there's a story behind that name), do you think it would be ok if I stored them in peat moss until the fall? do I need to refrigerate them? Should the peat moss be damp?
thanks so much for your reply.

If you are going to plant them this Fall, they should be fine no matter what you do. Just don't leave them in the sun. LOL
A cool dry place would be fine with some peat moss, and a little damp not to much don't want them to mold.
As far as my DG name, I have 4 Kitti's. Their names are:
Tilly
Ratso
Miss Sassy
Corky
Tilly and Rat are my youngest of the clan, When I had to come up with a user name for DG. I have a pic of the two of them on the table, was to cute, and the name pop up. Will fine the pic.

Tilly in a pot
Love that Tilly-in-pot. Sort of like Jack-in-the-Pulpit. LOL.
Daffodils are tough. I got some this spring from someone who hadn't had time to plant them in the fall. I planted them in early February and at least 1/2 of them bloomed in March. What you have to watch out for when storing bulbs is that they don't mildew.
Oh I love your photo. We have two kitties, Spike and Mia and we are just ridiculous about them.
Thanks to you both for the advice. I'll pull them up this week while it's nice and HOT.
