Thai Cuttings For Sale

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

I thought that I would pass this along to fellow plumie growers who are interested in Thai plumerias. I am not associated with this seller in any way, but I have purchased from him in the past, and I know that he sells quality plumerias. These plumerias were imported from Kukiat in Thailand, who is a wonderful person and an expert not only in plumerias but in all tropical plants and trees.

I just received a huge box of wonderful Thai cultivars myself, and I am just so delighted with them. The lavenders and purples -- 'Blue Violet,' 'Purple Tigress,' 'Muang Phuang Roi' -- are all ones that I have from Kukiat, and they are so awesome! I'll post some pictures of them here on this thread. 'Loi Kratong' is an awesome pink with an orange center that has the most wonderful fragrance. That one bloomed in my greenhouse last winter and is just finishing up. 'Kaleinani' is a yellow/orange with a wonderful fragrance. And the others are stunning colors, including 'Typhoon,' 'Allison,' 'Thai Orange Splendor,' 'Choco Delight,' and 'Beautiful Thailand.' My 'Typhoon' has been blooming all summer and is gorgeous and smells great too.

This is 'Chocko Delight.' Mine is a little bit lighter than usual because there hasn't been real intense heat here this summer.

I have most of the others, but they haven't bloomed yet for me. You can see other pictures of the flowers here at Kukiat's web site: http://www.kukiatsgardens.com/PlumeriaGallery.html

For those of you who are wondering why my original post makes no sense at all, it is because Dave's Administrator Terry decided to remove a portion of it because it looked like an ad to them rather than an endorsement.

I personally am glad that Dave's is free of ads. I especially hate pop-up ads. However, I think it is very important for the more experienced collectors to let others know where to find reliable, trustworthy sellers who sell quality cuttings and plants not only because we addicts like to enable other addicts but also because it is really easy to get ripped off out there by unscrupulous sellers that will take your money and turn over not only unhealthy plumeria cuttings or plants but perhaps ones that are nothing like what was advertised.

Those of us who have been burned know what it is like to pay a lot of money for a cutting only to have it fail to root. Some of us have even found the larvae of the borer beetle in our cuttings that were purchased off of eBay.

So please let me assure you and Dave's administrators that I do not wish to advertise for any particular seller, but I do recommend certain sellers such as Florida Colors Nursery, Brad's Buds and Blooms, who is selling Kukiat's cuttings and plants at this time, and Hawaii Sandy on Ebay, who is Jim Little's daughter. These four are about the only ones that I personally would trust to buy cuttings from, but there are other collectors within the community that buy and sell all the time that can be trusted also. So the point I guess I am making is that word-of-mouth is the best way to buy cuttings and plants with this hobby to minimize your risk of getting ripped off.

So this thread was meant to pass the word on that Brad's Buds and Blooms has some awesome cuttings of Kukiat's including Thai Orange Splendour, Blue Violet, Allison, Kaleinani, Loi Krathong, Purple Tigress, Typhoon, Glady K. Brandt, Muang Phuang Roi, Chocco Delight, Beautiful Thailand, Mr. Ambassador, and JL Tornado and that anyone who is interested should contact him.

Again, I am not associated with the seller other than I know him as another collector and have purchased many times from him before. I also know Kukiat very well as another collector and have many, many of his plumerias in my yard, which probably makes me one of the happiest people on earth^_^

To me, this thread is no different than all the other endorsements that I have made.

Wow, I just found this posting as I don't get over here very often.

I appreciate your kinds and thoughtful gestures, Clare.

However, under the circumstances, I would wager that a certain Administrator, whom I won't name-- is still sore at me about a non-related issue concerning feedback I left for a business that did me great financial harm. When I followed up with her by saying, in essence, I hoped she didn't harbour any negative opinions about me, I got no response, which pretty much answered my question.

Truly sad, when you consider I have never ever had any negative words with a member on the open discussion forums, nor caused any problems on the open discussion forums with any members.

I am not advertising for myself, and Clare did this simply on her own.

However, it is now obvious to me that this Administrator practices unfair and hostile judgements on members she decides she doesn't like--even when the judgements she dispenses are obviously and flagrantly biased. The fact she didn't remove your other posts that had actual scans of BUSINESS CATALOUGUES with PICTURES AND PRICES, tells me my assertation of her management style is correct.

Brad, Terry's argument to me is that those should have been removed long ago if she had noticed them and that they are simply too busy to view all the posts that are made and scrutinize them for content and that they remove the ones that are brought to their attention. I'm going to remove the links to them in my previous post, or else she might remove them also, and I think they should be left there because they provide a service to people.

I think it is a sad day when we can't let people know which are the good businesses and which are the bad ones, which is all I have ever intended to do. I think, in the future, we just need to walk on eggshells when we endorse businesses and make sure that it doesn't look like an advertisement. I have always objected to self-promotion here at Dave's and elsewhere, and aggressive pushing of wares is a turn-off, but that wasn't the case here.

I would recommend putting Kukiat's cuttings on Dave's Marketplace, that way they will make money and be less likely to object.

Terry is no doubt reading this thread now, Brad, so I would be careful not to insult the king, or else he could have your head cut off! Free speech isn't really welcome here; censorship is alive and well. I know members that have left for these exact reasons.

To correct a few false assumptions:

1) This had nothing to do with who the seller was. To be honest, I don't recall a run-in, but I'll take Brad's word that we had one. However, it's water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned.

2) Despite the way I spell my name, I'm a she, not a he. So, no "king" here.

3) The Watchdog exists for members to leave feedback on the companies they have ordered from. Can you discuss vendors in the forums? Yes. But if you trash a company's reputation, they're going to want to respond, which tends to lead to self-promotion or a flame war or both. Not good.

If you want to chat about your order and/or outright brag on a company, that's fine. However, the Watchdog is a better place to do that, as the exposure is longer-lasting and available to everyone, not just forum subscribers.

However, when title your post "cuttings for sale", and you post their price list and details on how to contact them to place an order, that crosses into "shilling" for them, a practice we have had to curtail in various forums over the years.

I think we can all agree we want to keep the forums free from posts that are thinly disguised ads. That's all I did in this case - and I did it quietly and privately. So I'm really disappointed to find I'm being disparaged and my motives are being called into question - especially since Clare has in the past asked us to remove similar posts by others when it's a vendor she doesn't personally endorse.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Terry, I know you are a female, and the king comment was not referring to you personally. It was a reference to olden times when a peasant could get his head cut off for criticizing the king. It was a joke or perhaps a commentary regarding free speech here at Dave's, but I didn't disparage you.

To correct your false assumption: I brought to your attention ads which were self-promoting when new members didn't know that they couldn't advertise for themselves here in the forum, which had nothing to do with whether I endorse them or not. As I said above, I agree with Dave's policy that there shouldn't be advertisements and self-promotions. Thanks for disparaging me with your comment by inferring that I'm a hypocrite. As I said, I didn't disparage you.

There was an unevenhandedness about you editing this thread because you didn't edit or remove the others that I had made previously and others that are, in fact, all over Dave's Garden. You explained that when you said that you would have removed them had you seen them.

Now that we know the boundaries, which should have been explained at the time of the removal to clarify the issue, we can abide by the boundaries better than before. We'll have to make sure that we "brag on" a company and not give contact information. I was in no way a "shill." As I said, I'm not associated with this business that is on the other side of the country from me.

Speaking of strange boundries...........How's come a firm with a whole fist full of negative and near negative in Garden Watchdog is an advertiser in or on the same site?
DG sending copy to the company in question enables response. Is there no outcast of advertizing by a firm that repeats their mishandling of orders, shipping, use of double talk, flat out lies and inability to make refund to cover errors? Makes me apprehensive about trusting the other advertisiers on this site!

Which vendor are you referring to? (Sorry, your link doesn't go to a particular listing.)

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

The first link works and goes to my specific link.

This link includes my post made today. My post is second down from the top. I tried to send this privately to Dave but got no answer.

I'm afraid the link only works for you. My guess is it's probably the link where you added (or started to add) a review to a company's listing.

However, if anyone else clicks on the link, they can't see the company name or any hint as to which company it might be. I've captured a printscreen of what I see when I click on that link (see photo below.)

If you tried to dmail Dave today, there's a better-than-average chance you won't hear back from him until Monday. He tries to preserve some family time on our official "days off" (which rarely works out that way ;o)

Generally speaking, the best way to report any concerns you have is through the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of each page. That routes to our helpdesk, where Dave and I both have access to any incoming messages.
