I took the short drive to Valley Nursery (valleygrow.com)
and met Earl Matthews the happy owner.We enjoyed a nice visit.He has BRUGS.Literally thousands.From cuttings to
huge plants 10-15 feet tall.It really gives new meaning to the word jungle.I learned a lot on that visit and look forward to the next one.Needless to say,several brugs,and a package of seed,followed me home.Next year I too will have trading material.

Ah, JT, you are on my mailing list for tuesday, have a little pink one with blooms on it for you.... please let me know what you have so i don't send you duplicates. Earl seems like such a nice guy, wish i were close enough to get to his nursery!

These are small "starter plants" most about a foot tall.I am hoping for enough growth before frost to get some cuttings when I trim them back for winter.We still have about 2 1/2 frost free months here.
I found Earl sitting in a big pile of potting soil and putting in more cuttings.He is very obviously a man who enjoys his work.
Just once I'd love to see one of these places. Oh well, I can picture it in my mind. Must have been heaven
Liz,Earl's place isn't the standard nursery setup with neat rows of plants etc.Valleygrow is literally an 80 acre pine forest with little trails running every which way.Along the trails are big plants,little plants,trays of seedlings and flats of cuttings.Here and there are greenhouses,uncovered this time of year.Plant lovers heaven.
