I was thinking of making one out of concrete and in fact, I got a frame in steel prepared for it. The dimensions I planned was quite "generous"! And it was looking like a water tank, almost!! So, my mind strayed on other ideas. Suddenly, I thought why not use one of those flat stone slabs that are lying around in the garden? This thought came after dusk. Lo and behold, I decided to search for the suitable piece, found it, brought it in and sat about this project. It took me 2 1/2 hours because my cement mixture had excess water and I spent half of my time blotting it out as the thing was slipping down slowly! In the end, I am quite satisfied with the end result. I intend to keep it on the ground.
My new bird bath......
Great job Dinu, its very attractive!
Thanks Pelletory. I only hope the birds will opine the same and use it to its full. They may use it mostly for drinking, I reckon.
Very nice, Dinu. Here birdy birdy ;o)
Good idea Dinu...I think the birds are gonna love it!
Looks really good.
Thanks. Using stone as a base, we can choose the shape we want too. I found that advantage there. I may do another rectangle one later. That too looks better. Even a round one.
What a neat idea!
Thanks JuneyBug.
Now that's what I need!!
I must say I am very happy about this project. The Magpie Robin and the Red whiskered bulbul are regular visitors at set times for having their bath and drink. I'm happy to share my joy here. It is such a lovely sight to see them so very happy. I've kept about 10 ft. away from the window and I see that I don't move jerkily when they are there lest they fly away.
Crow pheasant and the koel also visit sometimes. The House crow and myna choose another container to quench their thirst.
First time to see this thread, great job on the bird bath's Dinu!, I see it has paid off. With concrete the possibilities are endless. lol
I'm glad your project came out so well. You sure have some pretty birds to enjoy there! Great job!
I really like how that turned out! Very nice for the birds and looks nice in the garden.
I want to make a bird feeder. I had made one in mesh but it was a flop. I have to be more patient I guess. Those are mostly insect eaters and nectar feeders. The koels, doves and pigeons, myna and crow will have grains while the others have different diet.
Beautiful bath you made, Dinu...but how did you get it to change colors? :)
I love your birdbath. What a great idea. And they seem to love it!
Change of colours? I just noticed it. It must be the different light conditions and probably some fading out.
I must now add 'newer' birdbath. Some situations arrived at home when the 'stone smith' had to be summoned. But after his main job, we got to do him other things relating to our new house project involving some granite stones. Well, that's another story altogether but here, I'll show you the new birdbath that he made for me (of course for a big price). I chose a suitable stone slab and then asked him to cut up a trough in it by marking the dimension of the rectangle.
I notice the koel and crow coming in for a drink but I'm yet to spot the usual bulbul and robin dipping in. They know the spot alright but may be they have already noticed their new and expensive 'bath tub' when I have not been around. Let's see. With warmer days on the anvil, they are sure to make use of this facility as before. I've kept 2 inches depth at one and and the slope on the other end of the trough is one inch for it to land in and feel the water and then slowly feel the depth.
Picture of the old one with the new 'in waiting'.
That is such a great bird bath Dinu! It's a very nice size too. Thanks for posting the pics!
Really nice!
Great job! I love it!
That is a handsome birdbath, and one that can be enjoyed for generations.
Right, JuneyBug, I want to see it in use for the next two hundred years to begin with!!
^_^
