Is it too late to prune brugs

Brenham, TX(Zone 8b)

I need to cut back my brugs before bringing them into the "lean-to" greenhouse I put up for them in the winter. They will be too tall to fit. The greenhouse is not heated, but it is attached to the south side of the house which provides some warmth. Do I still have time to do it now? I live in zone 8b. Thanks

Why would you bring them in this early? I am in 6a, and mine don't come inside until the end of October. They need all the natural light they can get in order to set blooms. I would wait until you hear of a threat for frost, cut them back, stick the cuttings in water, and bring them in at that time.

jamminspoons, I live about 17 miles south of Giddings. My Brugs go into the greenhouse just before the first frost. That could be as early as late October or as late as December. In our zone you could plant the Brugs in the ground. They will die down to the ground, but with some mulch, they will come back from the roots.

sorry, i wasn't very clear. I don't plan on bringing them in until winter...just wondering when to cut them...now, or when i bring them in....

I would prune just before taking them in.

Don't cut them now, they may still produce blooms for you. Wait till it frost, then cut them back, and bring them in.

Mine has just had it first flush due to the dry weather this year. Definately wait til just before frost - they bloom much more after the weather cools.

after that last flush of blooms, you should have fertilized them again and then get a nice big flush soon.
