I'm completely confused

Do not understand how to use this site. I'd like to, as I enjoy GW and have absolutely never had trouble using it, so it's not like I'm an idiot. I am, however an impatient person, and used to things going my way (except with radishes), anyway, I'm not finding "help" or the "tutorials" enlightening. How do I set up my trade lists? Help me! There it goes again!!!!! I post a new thread, and when I view it, it says it's not new. It's totally new. What's up? Elvis

Click on the right side of your screen, where it says "Elvis's TradeLists". A screen will come up that has everything you need to manage your trade lists. Click on the item you want to add, such as "Bulbs". Click "Add new item..." Fill in the blanks and add the status (i.e. Available for trade or SASE) and that's pretty much it.

Impatient gardener is an oxymoron, isn't it? :) We wait all the time to see the fruits of our labors.

If you need more help, just holler...

Hi Elvis - i heard you left the building....hehe

Anyway, Tradelist, minimal instructions for the impatient:

Lets add a trade item to your new trade list:

Click link that says "Elvis's Trade List" (on the right side of the screen under "Your Pages".
Now, scroll down to "Access By Category"
Click on "Annuals"
See the third row down that says "Add a new item under this category"? Click it.
Fill in the info you would like to include and right above the submit button you will see a drop down "status" menu. Pick one.
Click submit. Tada! You now have a trade item.

Elvis, relax and take a big breath. That's right. Now slowly exhale....Kind of like watching a blossom slowly unfurling her petals. You will catch on and catch up; no one is expected to do it all at one time. Just enjoy yourself here, and all the other good things will come to you!

Elvis, welcome to DG. From your member page, it appears you were able to successfully set up some items in your tradelist.

I take it you weren't quite sure about the Latin names - and not everyone includes them, so you're not alone. But it does make it easier to know what exactly you are offering for trade (or looking for in return). Here's where you can find the latin names to the plants you have listed for trade:

Lupines: http://davesgarden.com/search/plants.php?search_text=Lupine

Marguerite: http://davesgarden.com/search/plants.php?search_text=Marguerite

Veronicas: http://davesgarden.com/search/plants.php?search_text=Veronica

If you have anything else you're listing for trade, or looking for, you can use the Plants database, searching by common name to find the latin name of most common plants.

One thing that is very different about DG vs. GardenWeb is that this site is very database-driven, and GardenWeb is more text-based.

It can take a bit of effort to get the hang of it, but once you do, the benefits far exceed any effort required. There is no place else where you can track your trades like you can here. Or set up a personal journal, or browse other gardeners' journals (if they've chosen to make them available to the public.)

And there is no friendlier gardening spot in the internet, and probably not a bigger one.

I hope you stay a while, and give yourself enough time to get the hang of it. You won't get it all in one setting - it takes time. But it's time well-spent, and any questions you have, just post them, and we'll help you out.

Thanks, Guys. Have to eat now. Be right back. Elvis

hope you get the hang of it elvis!!

Thanks everybody. I'm getting better at this. I have to leave the room now. Best Regards, Elvis
