Please post any supplier from whom I may buy a Monstera deliciosa. Honestly, I had no idea it would be so elusive, and I want to get one going in my garden STAT! Thanks to any and all help on finding this one.
Online source for Monstera deliciosa needed
There are 4 vendors listed in Plant Scout, you could start with one of them http://davesgarden.com/products/ps/search.php?search_text=Monstera+deliciosa&submit=Search And a number of members list it as available for trade if you don't feel like paying for it http://davesgarden.com/community/trading/search.php?search_text=PFPID:1204
I find them in our big box stores here, in the houseplant dept, in all sizes from 4" on up.
I have seen things that *look* like they might be seedling Monstera at Home Despot, but they are most often labeled as Split Leaf Philodendron, and sold as a house plant.
ecrane3 - I did check out the Plant Scout leads earlier, and they were all dead ends - either not available, or the site didn't actually have that plant for sale.
At this point, I don't have much to trade, just getting my garden established . . . I don't want to be a mooch!
Thanks for the heads up, though!
Try ebay, there are probably plenty of options there, and if you check feedback first, and email the seller to make certain they know the difference between a monstera and a philo I'd bet you'll find what you're looking for. :)

It's pretty easy to see the difference-Monstera leaves are more round and most philos have more ovate leaves-even P. selloum, that looks the closest to it is more ovate and less "flat" than a Monstera
If you are not sure-put the plant in question's picture up here first and we can tell you.
also try lorescotropicalplants.com --this is Esteban McGrath's enterprise, and I got mine from him.
Thanks for all of your suggestions! I also saw that Prejean's (one of the Internet nurseries on this site) comes highly recommended, and has this plant in stock. I'll be ordering soon.
I would bet $$ that those
"things that *look* like they might be seedling Monstera at Home Despot, but they are most often labeled as Split Leaf Philodendron, and sold as a house plant"
ARE, indeed, Monsteras.
I've seen them around here at WalMart's labeled the same...and they are Monsteras.
The ones I see at the big box stores are never labeled, so it helps if you know what you're looking at. To me the leaf shape of the baby monsteras are so different from all the other stuff that usually pops up that it's hard to miss them. I got a tiny 4" one last summer and planted it in the ground, it's about 2' tall already and already showing plenty of holes in the leaves, it does pay to buy them small, makes you wonder why the larger ones are so costly.
The split leaf philo leaves are so different from the baby monsteras. Sometimes you have to go with your gut and not the label, especially if it could save you a ton of money!
That's a monstera!!
Hilarious. I have been an avid gardener for YEARS and think it is so funny that I totally missed the boat on this! Live and LEARN!
Thanks, and ,er, sorry to have bothered you with this . . .
Jeff
Jeff, I sent you a private e-mail a couple of days ago. I live very near you in South Pasadena and can give you some large cuttings of this plant if you wish.
Ken
Hi Ken - I JUST emailed you back through DG. Super kind of you to offer - but as you can see, I'm set up for Monstera (and embarrassingly always WAS set up for it).
Thanks!
Jeff
lol you are funny :)
I'm glad you solved the Monstera problem. I've been collecting for about 40 yrs. now, and may have some things that you do not have and vice versa. Perhaps we could swap some cuttings or plants in the future, or at least see each other's yards. It's always fun to see what other people have done to extend the limits of tropical plants.
Ken
Hi again Jeff. I looked up some of your other posts and found you have just moved into your new house. Definitely e-mail me. I have tons of extra tropicals that I can give you to start up your yard.
