another question

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I have three seedlings that have lost all of their leaves. They still look green to me but for a couple of months, they have done nothing. Will they get new leaves or should I just give up on them?
Thank you.

Hi Louise, what made them lose their leaves? That's unusual for this time of year. Check to make sure that the soil isn't too wet or too dry. Is there any shriveling/desiccation at the soil line? If there is none, the leaves will probably grow back. If there is some desiccation at the soil line, you'll have to cut above the shriveled part, dip in rooting hormone, and re-pot. Can you show us a picture?

I'll take a picture for you Clare and post tomorrow.
Once again, I thank you for being here for me!

Here's pictures of the 3 seedlings that have lost their leaves. The leaves dropped about 2 months ago and I've just been waiting to see it leaves would start growing again. The soil is damp, not too wet. I hope these are clear enough for you.

Louise, how did the top two lose their heads? The growing tips have been cut off or perhaps eaten off. There doesn't look like any nodes on those two which could sprout branches at this point. I think that they will probably decline, but you can take a wait and see attitude with them at this point. Yellow is starting to show on the base of the first one, and that could indicate desiccation or rot.

The last one does have a growing tip, but the picture is pretty dark, and I can't see if there is rot at the bottom or not, but it kind of looks like there might be.

I don't know how they lost their tops Clare? Like you said maybe something ate it off and I don't think they were cut off, they are in my backyard and only I have access to them. I will watch them and see what happens and I'll check out the third one to see if there's rot at the bottom.
Thanks again my friend.

Sure, Louise. Yeah, with no growing tip on the first two, they might have no nodes to grow from. Maybe a snail or slug got them! The third one looks like it is rotting. Sorry, buddy!

I'm glad Clare was the one to break the bad news... those are toast IMHO....

I third toast...sorry Louise...If I were you I would start again. If they do come back it will take longer for them to recover, than it would for you to plant new seeds and get them to the same stage your plants are now. They also will be better plants in the long run.
Just my opinion, Davie

Ok, thank you very much. I have 3 others of each one so I'll be ok but I thought there might be a slim chance..
Thanks all!

LOL! I don't mind being the bad guy! LOL!

Louise, I'm glad you have more of the same cultivar. I would sprinkle some snail bate around your pots because something ate the heads of those two.

I will do that Clare.
You are not the bad guy, just the one with the bad news!
Thanks everyone, dilemma solved!
