Voodoo Queen-my most dependable bloomer. This is the Hibiscus that got me started a few years ago...Now I have about 86-and I run outside like a little kid at x-mas time to see what has bloomed for the day.
I do feel, however, that I do not get as many blooms as I should-or should I say as many as I want.

Pretty blooms. 86 would keep me more than busy.

Beautiful, and as usual there are a few I've never seen before. I love your Frankie Blue Eyes.

Are they all in pots and how do you keep them all watered?

Beautiful blooms, one and all!! Hmm, I was just looking at Hot Wired over at the HVH website and now I'm thinking, I might NEED one of these, lol! I just came in from fertilizing, and I'm so tired, I'm almost wishing I would have had the common sense to stop at 86, lol!

I'm coveting your Frankie Blue Eyes. I ordered this one back in January, and my order got cancelled :-( It's definitely on my wish list with Cindy though :-)

Great growing!

I hand water. Probably don't fertilize as much as I should. Two times per week. I do get a little help from nature-it showers in the afternoons alot here. The ones on my porch get very tender loving care. The ones in the garden are also in pots..I think they get a little more love from my dogs.

Karen-I love all of your hibiscus....I want mine to look like yours...
P.S.
I am not stopping at 86 :)...I will have to stop when the house is full in the winter-unless I get a bigger greenhouse.

Thanks for the compliment! I hand-water all of mine too, ever since I moved into a rental house last November :-)

I should put up a picture of my driveway. That's where they all are, and it looks like the Home Depot of Hibiscus, lol!

Very Nice!!! Looks like City Slicker under hot wired. Mine blooms the same.

Hey Everyone!!! I just bought my first three hibiscus. They were bareroot and I planted them in containers 5 days ago. They are in 56 quart containers from HD. How often should I water? Our temps are high 90's right now. When do I feed for the first time and how often? I have Stolen Kiss, Love Bite, and Whipped Cream. Thanks for any help in advance.

You're going to have to figure out the watering frequency for yourself--there are too many variables that go into that so what works for someone else may be too much or too little for you. The best thing to do is check regularly by sticking your finger down a couple inches into the pot--if the soil still feels wet then leave it alone, but if it's getting dry then give it some water. You don't want to leave them soaking wet all the time, but you also don't want to let them dry out completely. Letting them dry out completely in between waterings tends to stress them and then some leaves will turn yellow and drop (keeping them too wet will have the same effect). I'm not sure how big your plants are, but if they are very small then your containers may be a bit on the big side which is going to make it easier to overwater them accidentally, so I'd definitely be extra vigilant on the watering. If they're larger plants though that size container should be fine.

Since they were bareroot and you just planted them I probably wouldn't fertilize for a little while, let them get settled in first. And by the time they get settled in, it may be a little late in the year to fertilize--if you're planning to keep them outside for the winter you don't want to stimulate tender new growth too late in the year because it'll get damaged more easily, but if you've got a greenhouse or are planning to keep them indoors under lights for the winter then you could give them some once they're comfy in their pots.

I'd also keep them somewhere fairly shady for a little bit, then gradually adjust them to being in more sun (in your hot climate they'll probably appreciate some PM shade even once they've settled in...shade during the hottest part of the day will also help with the watering)

Maybe I am misreading something but a 56 quart container would be 14 gallons and unless these plants are quite large they will have a time growing roots to fit that large a pot and you will have a time trying to figure out your watering schedule as they may not have enought roots to take up all the water needed to moisten such large containers.

By bareroot do you mean they were shipped without their pots but with the soil still around the root balls?

You have some really pretty plants there and I know you will love them.

The plants were purchased from Stokes Tropical and were shipped with no dirt on the rootball just some wet packing material around them. They have some blooms, a few of which have opened already. They are about 2 feet tall. So far they seem to be doing OK. I have used containers for vegetable gardening and dwarf citrus trees for about 3 years with good success. I fertilize with Miracle Gro 1 x a week for these and in summer water 2x daily. I'm a real newbie with flowering plants. I purchased hibiscus fertilizer and instructions say you can fertilize at low, medium, or high levels. I thought I might need to fertilize some since I will be watering so much. Thanks for your advice. This will be a lot of fun if I can just keep them alive!!!!
