Updated pictures of my pond built in December of 08

Deer Park, IL(Zone 5b)

The top of stream (35 feet long). I just had the yard weeded/ fabric laid, and mulched so this will be as good as it will get this year! I also added accent lights outside. This pond thing is expensive!!!!!

A little farther down stream.

You can see in the above picture I have a small leak on the side of the river. I need to pull up the liner and add a little mulch to stop the overflow. Many of you may recognize your plants that you sent me in the mail. They are all doing well and again thank you. Some of the plants are also from the co-op and they are doing great as well.

The pond. I raised the water level up 3.5 inches. It is situated on a hill and the back wall seemed too high. Pond guy did that as well. Notice the light tea color of the water. That is run off from the mulch from me watering the new plants. It's okay-the mulch coloring won't hurt the fish.

Awesome pond!! Love your stream it looks so nice next to the patio.

(Zone 7a)

Your pond and stream is really pretty, you have done a lot of work also. By the way I found two of my brown fish that have raw spots on them and I thought all was OK. I'm going away for about 10 days, I'm ordering some stuff to use when I get back , but sure it will be too late for these fellows for sure. Katherine

I'm sorry to hear about your two fish-check your water quality-something isn't right. Maybe take a little water out and put some fresh in-it might help for the next ten days. Isn't there anyone or a club who could help you whilst you go away? I'd help if I was closer. I hate seeing any living thing die (including plants). My son made me a sign for the house that says "plants are people too"!. He's only 8 and it's not perfection but I love it!

MaMaM: Very nice addition!! That is my project for next year. It must sound great to sit there on the patio! I can't imagine you won't enjoy that immensely :-)

Ya know, funny thing is that I have a hard time just sitting by the pond. I either start planting, shifting, taking dead leaves off lillys, cleaning, feeding fish, water the landscape, deadheading. I drive myself crazy! I only stay still when I am on my "feeding rock" trying to entice the koi to come closer with food. My husband calls it the only time I relax and it's next to the fish and not him!

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

Lol, mm I know how that is. I had people over for a BBQ the other day and while we were all sitting around the pond I got up and started shuffling plants, weeding, etc. and everyone was like, CMON! Sit down!! lol we are silly.

Post more pictures! I loved looking at them, you've done a great job. I would love to see more from your pond tour, as well.

Yes!! Post more pics!! :-) um .... Please!! (grandmama would be mad if I weren't polite!!)

and, yes ..... it's true ..... pick, poke, pinch, pull .... how many P's apply ..... never sit.

My 98 year old Aunt tells me all the time ... "You sit, You die!" I believe her, as I have NEVER seen her sit, even during meals. You see, I think she is actually physically connected to her favorite instrument; the stove. Two freezers FULL and the fridge .... And everyone else's fridge in the family.

Any ways ..... I do really like how the stream "steps" it way along.

As much as I wish I could say I was capable of the muscle work on my pond-I am not. I had The Langton Group of Marango IL put my pond and patio and lighting in. I pretty much had the design and John Langton tweaked it to improve upon it. I sourced and chose most of the plants. If they are small I put them in-big ones he put in. I picked out the boulders. John thought I was crazy, I made him sit on rocks in 90 degree heat in a rock yard so that I could see how many butts could fit on them. I put the rock in for my kids and their friends to play on and to sit on to watch the fish. The fish I picked out. The aquatic plants I chose or they were graciously donated to me by people here at Daves or my pond walk. Next year I plan to play it forward with any extra plants that I have to other newbies!
