HA! Nanny, fooled by the tricksie cowbird.

BTW, the other day I saw a cowbird fledgling being fed by a chipping sparrow. WHAT is it about the chipping sparrow nests that cowbirds like? I know they pick other species too, but throughout the forum I keep seeing the chipping sparrows as the unlucky recipients.

Yep she suckered me!! Just seemed too streaked.... aah well.

I felt so sorry for my poor chippies...and then they want to quit feeding them and get them to be on their own but the cowbird babies aren't ready!!

Yah, i was thrown by the stripes on the juvie. but figured it HAD to be a cowbird because I didn't know of any other instance of that kind of behavior.

And then, another interesting cowbird fact. If they are raised by a chippie, then how is it that they find their way back to "their own kind" to create flocks!!! Very odd bird.

I have wondered that too...I had one that after the chippie parent was evidently done..the poor CB fledgling just hung out here for a couple days and then just seemed to dissapear. Sounds like a question for Resin!!!!
