First Bluebirds Part 2

Stafford, VA

I am getting a bit excited as the new bluebirds should fledge tomorrow or Monday. I have heard a lot of chirping in the nest box several times that I have refilled the mealworm dish but I have resisted opening the box to get another photo. I wanted to get one as the new feathers were coming on but I think that I waited to long.

Here is one of the parents sitting in a preferred spot.

Here is a second photo of the male waiting his turn to feed the little ones. He seems to like this perch that holds my hummingbird feeder.

Great news bluebird!

Today is the day that I expected the young nestlings to fledge, however, they still appear to be content to stay in the nest box. I saw some fluttering of wings in the box this morning but only a couple of slight glances from the young ones at the opening. The two parents have taken up watching from the feeder shepherds hooks on my deck. Here are some photos from this morning.

It is a lot of fun watching this pair of bluebirds. I wish that I had gotten into this earlier.

Cute little birds! I wish we had them coming in to our yard. I;ve only spotted one in our not so immediate neighborhood so I know they're around. We want to put up a couple more nesting boses. So far no takers. I have to wonder if it's because we have waaaay to many squirrels.
