Smoke from CA fires

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

My Brugs think it is Fall, they are dropping leaves & buds like crazy. We have had thick smoke (Isn't this why the dinosaurs died?) for nearly a month or more, the sun is just a red ball in the sky. Most days there's not even a shadow. Not to mention our own lungs & eyes. Also the mites seem much more stubborn this year than in years past. Usually Avid does the trick, I have sprayed twice in 4 weeks & still having problems, tho, I'm almost out & it IS 3 years old. I also tried Anti-stress 2000, & didn't find it to work too well. Not much anyone can do about the smoke, as long as the fires are going. We have fires on 3 sides so get smoke no matter which way the wind blows. None are very close to us thank goodness!
We are calling this the "Summer of the Red Sun" This pic was taken last fire season, I haven't even taken any this year yet.
Let's hope they get these fires out soon so we can have a normal end to summer.
Hack, hack, cough! ;[

Bj, I was in the SF Bay Area late June. Didn't see much sun. Couldn't see Mission Peak on most days. On the positive side, it was cooler than here.

On what kind of mites were you using the Avid? It's usually reserved for tough battles — broadmites — because mite can develop resistance to it if they aren't all killed. If the temperatures are not over 85, try using Neem Oil. Pest can't develop resistance to it.

I so know what you mean about the hack n cough!
I was taking sudafed for sinus problems due to our lovely air quality here, got dehydrated from the sudafed and then landed in the hospital with heat stroke last sat. not a fun week. still trying to recover very slowly. :o(
sure wish those fires would go away...

Anjl, you silly girl! You doing OK? That is so easy to do when it's hot, but who would have thought that Sudafed would dry you up THAT much! Good to know, as I do take that once in awhile. Take it easy!
The fires are still going to the south of us, some days when the winds blow south we have a (nearly) clear day. The local news has basically stopped covering the fires as I guess they think it is "Old News" so we really don't know what stage the containment is. The fire to the north of us is out, that was the closest one to us, so we are glad of that.
My yard has really suffered from the lack of sun & probably the smoke. I was looking at pics of the Brugs last year & they were so much healthier then. Summer is about to wain down & things already look like it's Fall!
