So, I'm having the opposite problem that I usually have of all males at first bloom. This is Zucchino Rampicante, and it's got four blooms open today, all attached to about a 4 inch fruit. No male flowers are even near opening. Out of sheer desperation I went and robbed pollen from the pattypans for them...I know, I know, but I want to try these!! Can't stand to see then just shrivel up and die, I had to try something. I won't save seeds, but shouldn't these be "normal"?
Squash blossoms all female??
That cultivar does usually start with male blossoms, but if it got mixed up it will correct itself . Patience is a virtue, especially when you are trying to grow something, If you need to hand pollinate it, you will need a C. moschata tho. C. pepo won't do it.
Thanks FarmerDill. Maybe I'll just eat them. These are already so big it would be really hard to watch them shrivel and die :(. The only other thing I have flowering is the USO (Unidentified Squashlike Object), which looks like a watermelon, except for it's leaves (winter squashish). I'll see if I can get a picture of that, the fruits look like a ribbed watermelon.
