Desperately want this in my garden :( I had gotten a 'plant' from a mail order co and, of course, it was not a good plant --- it was DOA! I trust DGer's more than most of the online nurseries so...if you have some 'Sweet Laura', that you could spare, take a look at my trade list and dmail me :)
Thank you,
Jan
CLOSED: CLOSED: WANTED: Sweet Laura Alstroemeria
Which one did you order from? I got a dead one too!
I thought the one that I had ordered also was dead. The one little stalk that was there was yellow and died off. But, I planted the wrapped roots in a pot and kept it in part shade outside and it has come back with about 6 or 7 new stalks now. Did you try to plant the roots and see what happens? Maybe you'll have a little luck and they will put up some new stalks. My other ones (different names) put up new flower stalks throughout the summer. I didn't realize that they did this. I would offer to share but mine is too little :-( Andrea
If the roots are still firm they should grow back if you have a pretty good root section...
Sometimes their quick to get new shoots sometimes they take their time...
Their not very happy to be disturbed...
They do not like soggy soil so the roots will turn to mush if their not in good drainage...
And yes they keep putting out new shoots through the season......
Mine are one of the first to pop up in the spring and last to die off in the fall..
They'll keep on growing till the ground freezes here...
I have the roots planted abt 8" and mulched in layers on up....To help winter them here in zone 5...
yardqueen---I got the dead plant from "Park's Seed". I've learned my lesson as 99% of the plants that I ordered from them were dead or didn't survive --- Dger's are much more reliable and conscientious.
I've got some "Sweet Laura" on the way so I'm going to close this thread---THANK YOU!!!
That is where I got mine! ALso some brugs that rotted
I'm not at all surprised about that...
I thought they were supposed to be reputable
Maybe only reputable for seeds. They are good for that!
