Hi All, we have a tree growing in our orchard we can't identify. It is in the middle of the apple and cherry trees and we've been calling it our "chapple" bush. It's about 3 to 4 feet high. We have another one on our farm, not in the orchard, that is about 6 to 7 feet high. I'm attaching some pictures. The fruits are small, about twice the size of an olive right now. They were hard and green, and they're now turning a slight reddish color. They have a single seed on the inside, and have a shape similar to a peach with a "seam" down one side of the fruit. They are definitely not persimmons. We live in upper Kentucky.
Need help with Fruit Tree ID
I like the "Chapple Bush" name! Could it be an Asian Pear? Or maybe a Mexican Sapolte? (spelling?) What does it taste like?
LisaLu.
Thanks for your suggestions! It doesn't have a lot of taste yet, kind of just like a bitter un-ripe fruit of some type. Not bitter like a persimmon, just kind of "green"....
It is a stone fruit. My first guess is some type of plum.
