I found this at home depot. They had two cajun type hibs mixed in with the rest. 11.88 for great big bushes in five gallon pots. I was surprised to see them mixed in there. Of course I did not know what color it was going to be since the buds were small. Here she is. Pale grape ground color, very pink center with greyish bronze petal edges. Small dinner plate size easily 8 inches across.
new hibiscus bargain
Dear Lord! That's fabulous! Our Home Depot stock has been wanting this year ... not even any of Barry's available. Very odd.
I know, I was shocked to see those two mixed in with the rest. The leaf shape is easily recognized from the others. I am going to go back and get the other if it is still there. The bush did not look as nice, but can be rehabbed. The flowers on the other were a butterscotch and yellow.
Was this a cajun Hibiscus-did it have a name tag in the pot?
I would like to find out it's real name.
Reason I am asking- Exotic hibiscus has one just like it-I bought it.
It should be arriving any day now. They are calling it Pete's Blue-check out his site look at pete's blue-it is the exact same hibiscus.
cool I will!! No tags, in fact the sticker said color peach lol. The tag was a generic that said exotic hibiscus that is all. I only knew it was different by the round leaves compared to the rather toothed leaves of the others. Thanks for the ID :)
Oh my goodness, what a terrific find!!! Now why doesn't that ever happen where I live in So California??
yep have to agree. Yours is lovely too, same leaf shape and habit too. The leaves tend to want to cup.
Just got back to home depot today and they had all their hibiscus on clearance for 4.99 so I got two more shrubs. Cannot wait to see what colors I got. They had some really pretty standards too with the flowers with the frilly pistil.
I can tell you Cajun blue is about 5-6" across and I have never seen them any larger. I have petes blue as well and it gets about 8". It looks like a petes to me. Either or... you found a beauty.
Enjoy,
Robert
the flowers are about 8 inches across and thanks! I am waiting for the buds on the other finds to open to see what I might have!
This cv has been sold commercially under several names. It is a pretty flower but the bushes tend to flop badly making it less desirable for garden centers. I know of one grower sitting on several hundred pots of them but not knowing what to do with them other than cutting them back for another try. Nice for hanging baskets though. If you can't use a hanging basket than try staking them up and training them to grow more upright for a year or two.

I have noticed the outer branches are very floppy. I was considering cutting it back.
