What the melon?

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Okay, WHAT do I have here? They look good, they smell great, and they rolled off the stem. The problem is, the seed packet said "cantaloupe" and had a picture of that thing we Americans think of as a cantaloupe, with the light brown webbing. I AM going to eat these, but I'd sure like to know what happened! And what I'm eating, of course. Any ideas?

Crenshaw.

Wow. I wish I still had the packet, because I KNOW it said cantaloupe, and I'd love to spread the word on what brand it was. NOT that I'm the least unhappy to have some crenshaws! It's just, when you're expecting cantaloupes, you kind of like to get cantaloupes!

It does look like a Crenshaw, but there are other non-netted cantaloupes as well. One is always advised to know the cultivar, less surprises and if you like it a better chance of replicating it in future plantings, Cantaloupes come in a ll shapes and sizes.

Crenshaw is awesome to I think!

I know, Farmerdill. I'm the worst about noting the details. I ate one of these yesterday and it was wonderful. Not at all unhappy with my noncantaloupes!

Edited to mention it was cantaloupe-colored inside, that nice orangey color. Is a crenshaw that color inside?

Usually a paler yellow, than the orange fleshed cantaloupes
