Has anyone ever tried AquaGlobes in Outdoor Containers?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I keep seeing these pretty globes advertised, but since what you see is not always what you get...Any experience out there? My hesitation is that the hot Florida sun may heat the bulbs. I also wonder how breakable?

Thanks,

I don't remember where the thread was, but someone else asked about these a couple months ago and the general consensus was that they weren't very good, especially for outdoor plants. It had to do with how they deliver water and how long they'll keep watering for though, nothing to do with breakability, etc, that didn't even come up.

Thanks ecrane! I'll take your expert opinion and save my money for something more useful!

Good to know. My husband has been bugging me about those (I think he wants to slack on his watering chores ). For the amount of water some of my outdoor containers can go through in a day, I figured the globe would have to be the size of a volleyball, LOL.

Good point, Denise! My impatiens are particularly thirsty during the summer months!

Ah, glad to see someone ask about it, I was wondering myself! I had a feeling they were too good to be true.

Wait a minute! We may be onto something...combination gazing balls & plant waterers for thirsty plants! HAHAHA

here's the other thread on the aqua globes--someone posted on it today and bumped it up to the top so I saw it again! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/829421/

Thanks ecrane! I hadn't even thought of the globes getting blocked with soil. The other thread was very informative.
