Tomato Problem??

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Can anyone tell me what has caused this on my tomato? I'm hoping it is just "sunburn" because it has been VERY hot here lately and this is not on every piece of fruit. The plants themselves look fine. Just every so often I get one like this.

Thanks!!

Yup--looks like sun scald to me. I'll bet it was growing out where it didn't have enough protection from the plants leaves. If you have any other tomatoes in that situation, pick them green and layer them in a paper bag--they will finish ripening there and taste just as good as those that ripen on the vine.

Thanks Nature. I was hoping that was all it was and not some kind of blight or fungus. We have had days in the high 90s lately so i would scald too! :)

I sympathize! I'm mowing grass today and the heat index will "only" be 100, but tomorrow it will be 103 so I'm trying to finish as much as I can today (got 5 1/2 acres!). I'm sooooo ready for fall.

Ah yes, remember it was just a few short months ago,we were wishing for spring and for it to stop the infernal raining. Now I scorched dragging hoses and sprinklers around every stinking day.Now I'm wishing for fall so I can put the yard to bed for the winter again so I can get some work done inside.

If my veggies and flowers would grow as well as the weeds in this heat.

LOL! Guess we are hard to please, aren't we? Amen on dragging those hoses--I hate fighting with them. The weeds outgrew everything in my garden this year too. If they were good enough to eat, we'd sure never go hungry!

I read somewhere that native americans use to harvest the "nuts" from nutgrass, roast and eat them. Well,if that's the case,I can feed the neighborhood....LOL We change that song from "chestnuts roasting over an open flame" To " nutgrass roasting..............."

I'm sure if we researched long enough,we'd find,we can eat a lot of our "weeds".

Back to my hose/sprinkler dragging.

I don't know...it's awfully hot to be heating up the kitchen, cooking all that stuff. Let's just take the salt shaker outside and graze...LOL

Good idea! That would be one way to stick to my diet, LOL!
