Should I pot these up to bigger pots???

Need some information here ...

These are the two Brugs I have currently growing from seeds. Should I pot them up into a bigger pot or leave them until they get root bound? I know some plants do better if you let them get root bound before repotting. I am not sure if Brugs are one of those types of plants. Thanks for any advice. :-)

I would move the plant on the left into a 5 gallon pot. While supporting the rootball, turn the other plant upside down and carefully remove the pot to examine the roots. If you can see lots of roots, without necessarily being rootbound, then you can safely pot it up to the next size too. Otherwise, keep it in the same pot for a while longer.

Thanks so much, Bettydee! Will do! :-)

Looking good ...you must be excited, your first seed grown ones right? ...I am happy for you and look forward to seeing what treasures you have.

Yes! My very first from seeds. I have 5 young ones in the ground from cuttings that were shared with me, but these 2 are a first as far as seeds go! :-)

I am interested to see how the blooms turn out. And I need to start another few seeds from another cross I did that has yellow and pink bloom brugs crossed. That one might be very interesting. :-) Fun stuff!!!

Hi Beckygardener~ I just love the variegated plant on the left!! May I ask where you got the seeds? How long did they take to germinate? Thank you.

Ooops! I just realized the plant on the left is not variegated, but it is beautiful just the same. Still would like to know where you got the seeds. Thanks again.

zone10 - The seeds I germinated came from my own cross. They are both Pink Beauty X Ecuador Pink. I hadn't really paid much attention to the leaf shapes until you just mentioned it. They do look different, don't they? The left on looks more like Pink Beauty leaves and the right one looks like Ecuador Pink leaves. How interesting is that!!! The smaller one was planted about a month after the right one.

I have just enough seeds left to share with one more person if you would like what's left. D-mail me if you are interested. The seeds were harvested back in February, I believe. So they are not quite as fresh, but should still get a germination rate of 50% or better.

Thank you Beckygardener! I'll take you up on your offer. Look for my D-mail :-)

Becky - from the seeds you sent (Pink Beauty/Ecuador Pink cross), I started 6. Only 2 germinated (I probably mangled the others too badly!), but here they are today.

They are doing alot better than the one I purchased . . . I'm thinking I put it in too big a pot, so is currently working on roots, instead . . .

Oh WOW! Those look amazing, Nichole! That's so odd that the ones grown from seeds are doing so well and the one that you purchased is so much smaller. My cross was from two very nice growing brugs, so maybe they produced a super brug! LOL!

Becky how fast do these grow from seed I try alot of seeds but never these have no idea how long or do you soak them first?

Hi Dana! Mine pictured above were started towards the end of February and March respectively. I peel the corky seed coating off them and just put them in a small pot to germinate. You could soak them. I don't. Someone suggested using cleaned styrofoam egg cartons to start seeds in! I might try that sometime! LOL! I fertilize them as they grow, put them out in full sun, and stand back! LOL! The germination rate is not always 100%, but even if you get a couple, it's worth it. And then I keep potting them up. Now I know to do that before they get root bound. :-)

I just crossed pollinated some more blooms, but it takes a long time to produce seeds. Months! I don't have any more seeds at this time, but if you can't locate any, check back with me at the end of August. I may have some by then. :-)
