CLOSED: Really LONG tailed bird!

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Im sorry its not the best picture. This was taken out of my bedroom window. I tried to get a shot of him outside but he was gone as soon as I turned the doorknob. I usually see this bird on our way into town on the power lines. I was so happy to see him in the yard so I could finally get a pic!
Thanks
Caren

It looks like a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher! Aren't they fun to watch?

Yes, it was fun to watch. I wish I wouldn't have tried to get a pic outside I could have watched longer. I haven't seen him since I took the pic but I hope it will come back.
Is there anything I can get to bring them in the yard or is it just luck?
Thanks
Caren

congrats Caren. A great bird to have come visit. Try buying some crickets and turning them loose where it was sighted before

I see them often in the same areas along the country roads and they will usually show up on our fields if we are cutting hay! They usually line up in the fence row and swoop down as soon as the tractor passes! Hope you get to see them again..they are facinating!

Thank you! We have been having lots of crickets and other critters around lately.

Oh those are some of my faves! I also have been seeing them around lately - they probably love all the summer bugs. They are always perched on the power lines near freshly mowed fields and when I see one I start yelling "scissor tailed flycatcher! scissor tailed flycatcher! scissor tailed flycatcher!" and get all giddy. My boyfriend thinks I'm nuts. He said their tails have been used for inspiration when designing airplanes. Neat!
