We have lots of great threads with duck info. Thought we could repost our info and Q&As... and we can keep this thread bumped up and easy to find.

Raising Ducks 101
We have pied Muscovy ducks, and four pet pekins. i keep fidning pekin eggs here and there, so i need to make a place for them to lay their eggs. they were brought up in a separated area of the chicken house, but not long after i needed it for chicks, so they pretty much started sleeping outside with the geese. what can i do to convince them to lay somewhere?
I have 35 ducklings on order. 10 Dark Rouens, 10 Blue Swedes, 5 buffs, 5 khaki campbells, and 5 indian runners. surely i overdid, will fall in love with all the breeds....
I plan to use a 50/50 mix of chick starter and gamebird breeder crumble for them. I use non-medicated feed, and there is a difference of many professional opinions about waterfowl, their appetite, and whether it would cause an OD on the medication.
In their pen, their is a huge patch of nice grass growing, and lots of plants coming up from seed the chickens or goats did not consume. so i think they will have a well rounded diet.
For water, i have a small dogloo type of waterer for when they are very small, and a big sandbox style pond for later.
The temp here is great. so they will be outside, but in a weather proof shed...
Please tell me what else i need to know/have/do befor ethese ducklings arrive???

lol well we didnt get a call yesterday, so not sure the chicks hatched yet. Should be today, then our phones will be ringing.
how long will it take for the chicks to get to u
they say 2 days but i did get them in 1 day I just looked at my bank and there is a chage but about 50 bucks more than what i was told, so I will be on the phone with them. If the chicks hatched out last night or this morning I am thinking they will send them out tonight and I should have them in the morning.
wow thats quick
We just ordered a pair of peking ducks. We have a couple of pretty ducks, but they fly, so don't know if they will hang around long .
They don't like to be touched . But will eat out of your hand.
i got my ducks REALLY quick. they are doing lovely...
sorta semi, yes, and the runner ducks don't even waddle, they are SO straight up and down... you can tell, even as ducklings...
would a wild duck egg hatch i i found one because we have seen duck eggs just laying in our back paddock before
Just guessing yes. We found an abandoned Killdeers nest; scared hen off by accident - never came back. So hatched them in the bator. Did well until they ate their bedding. Should have known better. Also heard of old-timers finding duck eggs & setting them under a brooding banty to hatch.
One of my fave stories is of a banty running frantic & wild around a pool where her baby 'duck' was wading. She just knew her baby shouldn't be in the water. lol
lol funny
next time i find an abandoned egg i might try to hatch it it shouldnt be to hard to find an egg they pop up every where we even found one in our pool once
