I had never seen such an amazing sight, a field full of Texas Bluebells, Eustoma grandiflorum growing wild, in this heat and drought.
Texas Bluebells growing wild in Arlington.
It was all just too beautiful, Texas is full of wonderful things, I love it !!!
I can only imagine what that felt like. Those beauties are in short supply and they don't grow here. I'm happy to know they managed to bloom this year! I'll bet those rains a while back got them blooming.
Believe it or not Linda, the field is heavy clay and there were wide cracks in the soil all over.
I don't know how they survived, it only goes to show how strong native plants can be.
The picture of you in that field of flowers is so fitting for you. Both look beautiful. I hope you frame that one.

Thank you Charlene, I felt so good, it was a real blessing to be there.
Josephine.
Josephine, you know the Texas Betony that I have? Well one is blooming with pink flowers. Is that normal for them?
Charlene
I don't know, I have only seen it in red, but it could come in other colors.
Ohhh... Those are beautiful! Thanks for sharing, Josephine!!! :-)
kewl beans Josephine....did ya get some to take home?
"eyes"
I don't think they were planted, but I am not sure, and i didn't take any flowers, but I plan to go back for some seed. Too bad they are annuals, but they sure are gorgeous.
Just beautiful Josephine! I sure hope I can get over there before they stop blooming!
Josephine, you know the story goes that a family set up a creamery in central Texas to make ice cream and couldn't think of what to name their product. Next to the creamery was a huge field of bluebells, and that's how we ended up with Blue Bell Ice Cream at our picnics. :) Nice shots.
I had never seen a field of Bluebells, so I was amazed !!!
Beautiful sight Josephine!! Great find!
Just beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Where did you find this amazing field?
I have to tell you all, Frank and I went to check on the Bluebells a week ago and we were broken hearted, they put a drill site on that field and even though they didn't cover all of it, there wasn't a single bluebell there, so sad.
Another casualty to gas drilling. I hope that they will regenerate in the small piece that was left.
Josephine.
Gorgeous pictures - I'm so glad you got so many pictures before they stripped the plot.
There's a field a couple of blocks away from us that gets the most beautiful displays of some kind of umbrellaceae type flowers - Queen Anne's Lace type of flower and thick as a low forest of flowers.
But they come and mow it frequently. :( I guess it's good in a way - keeps the field from turning into a snake-haven. But, oh, those white flowers are sooooo pretty.
How lovely they are!
Where is the sad emoticon? :( :( ;(
Oh no! I was going to tell you to save some seed for me. I've had Texas Bluebells on my want list for a while....
No luck this time, but maybe next year they will come back.
Maybe I need to look on line for seeds...
With rain (that missing part of gardening) maybe some of the seeds left behind will take hold. We can hope. It would be a shame to loose something so pretty.
The bluebells are truly a lovely sight. So sad they mowed it down. I've been wanting some too and finally got the seeds a few years ago and sowed the seeds and finally got some blooms; but last year they didn't come up but I noticed two small clumps growing in the fall (they survived the winter). They are blooming now, and what a surprise!
I just found 3 seedlings growing 20 feet away! Oh boy!!!
I will be collecting seeds soon.
