I had to pick my BM yesterday because something was eating them...something big like deer. The vines were dying and the melons were turning but not fully. I cut one this morning. This one wasn't very sweet but neither has my cantalope or watermelons. It was a curious blend of watermelon,cantalope and cucumber flavor. Not bad but not awe inspiring either. I think,had they been sweet,I would have like it better.
What your experience with these melons? I may try one or two vines again next year in the backyard garden,fertilze and water them better to see if they'll be sweeter.

Banana melon
My mother liked to grow novelties, so there was usually a Banana melon in the patch when I was a kid. Never cared for them myself. I last grew them in the mid sixties. beautiful melons but that same peculiar flavor with a cucumber aftertaste.
I didn't mind the mixed flavors but I was expecting smoother and sweeter taste.
