I just got what appears to be variegated peppermint (it is for sure peppermint!) and horehound for 50 cents each at Wal Mart :) And they are even half decent plants!

I wonder if your variegated one might be pineapple mint?
Hmm. I will take a look in the PlantFiles and post a picture if I can't determine whether or not it is pineapple mint. It sure smells like peppermint to me :)
I looked up pineapple mint and variegated peppermint, and they look the same to me. Does pineapple mint leave a strong aftertaste (like you have just eaten a strong mint)? I just tried a leaf and it leaves a pretty strong aftertaste.
